This is something that has been bandied about in various threads and (IMHO), really merits a discussion of its own. What are the cap implications of Rice coming back? What portion of his salary would we pick back up, if any? I know a lot of you don't like the guy but I thought he added tremendous value to this team in the form a veteren leader and hard worker. Last season he showed he was still a threat from deep space. I'd liked to see him come back, even if for the minimum. Thoughts?
Glen Rice = G-Money Dont hate you foolz! "Rice has alot of problems with his Knees, the guy is washed up" says everyone i talk to about him. Well the guy is healthy now and probably will score 20ppg to piss all the rockets Organization off. He will do it trust me. LoL....
If Utah cuts Rice then he gets his salary from Utah and is free to sign with another team for whatever he can get. Since he'd be siging a new contract, then the salary for the new deal is what would count against his new team's cap. So if he signed for the minimum $1M, then his new team would be hit $500K against the cap (you get a 50% discount on cap hits for the 10 year veteran minimum) and Utah would have to make up the difference between Rice's guarenteed deal ($9.6M) and the NBA minimum. Realize that Rice has already been paid a portion of that $9.6M salary as part of his signing bonus, so Utah actually owes him less than his $9.6M cap figure..
hey if u remember correctly a player we had for a couple weeks did the same to us! u guys remember when we traded pippen we got stacey augmon as part of the package.then a couple weeks later we waived him and portland resigned him.he was talkin smack to a paper about our practices and how soft they were!
