I have my doubts. This is appealing to moderates who follow issues intellectually, including a few of our more impressive posters on this bbs, but I don't think it can address the rage that many feel as their standard of living goes down.

Forget whether he is tough enough in Afghanistan. Will he be tough enough to take on the economic obstacles of the country. Can he project some passion to those white women who are hurt most by the economy.

I don't know if he can project this as he seems to sink into the Dukakis, 2000 Gore, 2004 Kerry honorable nice guy image who wins with issue voters but loses the election.

Here's hoping Obama gets it that he has to seem like a fighter for those who are down, not just a non-threatening nice guy making intellectual fine points before the election.

Obama has won the minds, but not the hearts of the good and folksy American people.

Sometimes I'm unsure which narrative I'm supposed to believe - that Obama doesn't play rough enough or that he plays too rough and has crossed the line by using an idiomatic expression of the vilest caliber.

somebody please advise, thx in advance

That was a not so clever word play. It came out as mean, not tough.

Can the guy just seem like he is actually angry about lack of health care or declining wages for the middle class or tax breaks for the wealthy--a couple of issues. Not some sort of nuanced thing like "all sides have interesting ideas to add to the debate or somesuch.".

he's a weak candidate who won't fight for you who's campaign was too hard on hillary and now calls palin a pig, but he won't take a stand on anything

added to this, he is a secret muslim who attends a radical christian church and he is secretly gay

    he's fascinating

People around the globe have embraced obama because of his vision for the world. Obama believes that the U.S has much more to offer than Missles and war. You know what the right wing calls that? Soft. =/

We need a leader that will go into persia and crush the enemy! Nevermind that our comrades fighting in Iraq are exhausted of war, or that the suicide rate of those in conflict will be higher than that of our entire nation.
The advancement for democracy must continue!
fight, fight, fight and may god bless us all. =/

Yes. Do no understimate this man. He's the Muhammed Ali of politics. Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee. Look at the rope-a-dope he's playing on McCain right now with the lipstick thing - making the McCain camp play a dubious victim card. It's a smart move, as the GOP is not very good at playing the victim role.

Also, he is questioning McCain's honor after the sex-ed ad. This is a brilliant strategy - attack your opponents strength while getting under his skin. As we all know, McCain's greatest weakness is his famous temper. This is setting up the debates. If you have ever seen McCain in a debate, he normally comes off as a jerk. And everyone knows that perception is key to winning the debates - ask Al "sigh" Gore or Richard Nixon. Like Nixon in 1960, McCain will look old and grumpy as he smirks and grumbles during Obama's retorts. Furthermore, they are not going to allow Palin to stand next to him on the podium - poor Johnny will be iso'd.

McCain has peaked early, and America is going to say "thanks, but no thanks" to the president to nowhere.

Did you see my post (somewhere) about his appearance on Countdown? Dobermann was trying everything he could to get Obama to show some passion, and Barack kept repeating standard campaign rhetoric with a big smile on his face. That just ain't gonna cut it. Barack needs to study some tape of politicians who can give as good as they get.

I thought the Obama campaign was going to instantly fight every move from the other camp and had the bread to do it? Heck, if Obama won't fight himself, and with passion, who is going to do it for him? The guy better wake up and smell the java, pronto.

I didn't see it but I listened to it. I felt the same exact way. Of course, he's between a rock and a hard place about it. McSame's campaign feels like they have free reign to smear Obama all they want, but anytime he tries to hit back, they call him sexist or a hypocrite since he previously said he was above that.

Also he will be the angry black man.

Maybe this is the start of Obama fighting back hard enough.
