The guy is just too nice on the court. I'm tired of it. When he's underneath to dunk, he lays it up. We finally saw some fire in him when he got ejected, but I want to see that on a consistent basis.

Can Francis kick him in the nuts every game so he can take it out on the opposing C/PFs? That might do it.... :p

Wouldn't it be easier to just convert him to Hakeem?

He was mad, once, and I got the pic of it. He scored like 35 pts, 15 rebounds against the Lakers or something.

i think he lays it up under the basket because he cant dunk it. either that or he tries to conserve energy.

Well, the difference b/t that.....Shaq will never learn and is a stubborn fat b*stard. With Yao, someone just needs to pop him in the mouth - just light a damn fire. Then he'll realize he's in the NBA and not back in China having green tea and smoking http://www.chinese-symbols.com/chinese-symbols/m/mar1juana%20(plant).gif.

Since Rafer is the damn point on this offense, he's the one that should get him fired up. Instead when Rafer screws up or gets a foul, he's always giggling like a little b**** and slapping the referee's butt.

If Yao wants to get mad, he should pop Rafer.

he can dunk obviosuly but i think he lays it up more often than we like because he doesnt jump as fast as other centers so a quick layup flip is actually a quicker shot for him since he wouldnt need to jump than a dunk. at least thats what i think. i dont think his jump uses a lot of energy though just for one dunk though.

would like to see him more vocal it looks like he is starting to be, maybe its having steve back on the team?

Well, I guess it's our wishful thinking just like what the following comic suggested....

IMHO, it will be difficult that Yao Ming will change his mindset/character to become a "bad" guy in NBA.....

But nevertheless he could still be playing aggressive, mean and dominant on the court if he could garner respect and given a break from those biased officials ..... !!

    Captions for the comics:

Frame 1: It will never be tranquil here (in NBA).

Frame 2: And it is always survival for the fittest here (in NBA).
(In the background: Those were the money I saved for getting married)

Frame 3: And there is never fairness in this league (at least not for me)
(In the background: Yao: Hey, Judge, I'm wronged.
Judge: I said you're not wronged then you're not wronged.
Take him out to be beheaded !!)

Frame 4: Yao Ming: So I have decided to become a bad guy !!

Why does everyone want him to be angry?

What will it accomplish besides a few more power dunks and a few more fouls?

A few more technicals and etc.......

He's fine the way he is.

With all due respect Clutch, I do believe there is a difference b/t passion (personality) and technique. I am asserting that the OP meant passionate Yao and not angry Yao. The real question then is... is it still unchangable all the same? Can you turn Garnett into a benign player? Can you make 7 footers point gaurds? Is this really the same type of question? I would venture to say that at least you can practice techique, however physical limitations (massive hands and strength in the case of Shaq) and lack of commitment can be roadblocks. On the flipside, how does one practice changing one's personality? For the most part, you can't. However, I will put forth so much, you can't turn a passive man into an assertive beast... you can however teach the man to be smart with what he does. I remember a play this season where Yao leaned into his man aggressively on the shot and drew a foul...Bill even commented on it...that is what Yao can do.

The thing is, Shaq was never good at freethrows. Yao however has shown at the Olympics (and other instances such as pre-Tim Thomas last year) that he is capable of being dominant and assertive. That mindset...that energy...it drives you... it consumes you... and sometimes it takes something personal, like thinking all the refs are against you, to unlock it. Just like in Braveheart where William Wallace decided enough was enough...that he would have to assert himself if ever he wanted justice. That is what it is about, justice. If the the players played Yao fair, there would be no need for him to change his game. If Shaq's team were ever so bad early in his career that his ft's were keeping them from winning games... maybe he would have learned...hell, maybe that was the case (he was benched at the end of games) and he still didn't improve. Even so...I point to Kaman as an example of assertiveness being unlocked. Maybe it isn't something taught, but when the occasion comes, a man must step up and do his part. Brand is out and Kaman is stepping up big. Did you watch him against us? He wasn't doing new fade-aways he had practices or showcasing Dream-like post moves... he believes he is good now...he is confident...and he is assertive...he boxes out...grabs rebounds...and takes it hard to the rack.
As Eistein said...you would be a fool to do the same damn thing and expect something different...we've had nice Yao...nice Yao is capable of 27 and 11 on occasion... he is also capable of 11 and 5...maybe it is prudent for Yao to be "angry."

    Hulk'ed Ming

He can be NBA's version of Shawn Merriman.

One season, He'll average like 33 ppg and 15 rebs.

Next season, he'll be at 19 ppg and 8 reb getting blown up.

angry or not angry he will still be 7'6 and immobile in the 4th. He lays it in because he's not athletic and if he attempts a dunk the chances of getting swatted is the same as laying it up because layup is probably a quicker release than him having to use all his energy to jump. let's face it he's a liability in the 4th due to fatigue and lack of aggression. I dont blame him since he's the best player he can ever be for that size. it is what it is.
