it would also give us one of the tallest lineups in the league... and transform us from a poor rebounding team into one of the best... personally i think lewis and nachbar might both be fast enough to defend regular SGs and act as competent swingmen. and even though Rice is a bit slow, didn't he use to average a high number of steals/game?
I remember seeing a lineup with Cato\Taylor\Shard\Cat\Steve with Ming\Griff\Nachbar\Rice\Norris backing them up. I guess you could switch Rice and Nachbar, but one of them probably could play the 2 in back-up minutes. It is still hard considering Rice to be a 2, but it could work out. I hope.
Shard has the size and athleticism to guard opposing 2 guards so he shouldn't have much problem sliding to the 2 spot when Cuttino leaves the game. Nachbar shouldn't have much problem either. If Turkgulu can play at the 2, Nachbar sure can. Neither guy is very good at ballhandling, but it's not like either will be playing significant minutes there anyway.
How do you know this? Have you seen Nachbar play at all? I haven't. Just curious. Does anyone know if Seattle ever played Lewis at the 2? I would be willing to bet that if Seattle has not played Lewis at the 2 Lewis would have difficulty logging serious minutes at the 2. I don't have high expectations for Nachbar next year. I expect him to spend most of the season getting used to the speed of the NBA game.
Nachbar has plenty of speed. Getting used to NBA speed will be no big deal. Anyone that can go to the basket and dunk the way he did has plenty of speed. We do not need Lewis and his high salary.
I am also a big fan of Nachbar, but if we have any chance of getting Lewis, it would be foolish to pass on him. I don't think he is worth the max and I don't think he will ever make it. I would not mind a sign and trade with Seatle if we could trade Cato or Tayor. Keep Rice because his contact ends the same time a Griffins I think.
Do you really think that Lewis will take 3 years at 15 million over the 60 that Seattle is now offering.
Depends. If he performs, and does sign a max extension for max dollars after the 3 year/$15 mil contract is up he would end up making more than the $60 mil contract he would get from Seattle.
I know Lewis is a good player, and has many years of future play but why do we need him? I guess if we can give Rice to SEA [I don't know why SEA would want him] and maybe Kenny, OK let's do the deal.
Did you notice that Seattle no longer did that afterward? Shard is very far from a 2 he is exclusively a 3. I think that Boki would be a better 2 and don't forget that Rice has done it through out his career but will he be here? I think that this is the one position that we could improve but Maddux might be able to play there for some small ball. And I agree it would be foolish to pass on Shard if we can get him but he's not a max player and we should only give him about $9 million a year. then when Mo's contract is up or if we can trade him our salary structure will be fine with Rice's out of the way.
They have played Lewis at the 2. Actually he logged minutes at the 2, 3, 4 and a on few occasions the 5. He played 5 when they needed a 3 pointer at the end of the game.
