Went to circuit city the other day and i seen a product that claims you could watch cable tv on your laptop. I wasnt able to stay long and read more but i was wondering if any of you guys knew of it. Also do yall know if you have to be connected to the internet? That would be perfect for rocket games that are on cable while im at work!

yeah dude it's called a "digital TV Tuner" and it's basically a little piece with a coaxial cable (or just simply cable) on one side and a USB port on the other side.. u hook it up to your cable outlet and to your computer and u install the software that comes with it, and bam, u can watch cable TV in a window similar to windows media player (u can mess with the size, minimize the "screen", and do other stuff like typing/reading while watching.. it's around 50 bucks at radioshack.. I researched it extensively, but apparently no one carries it here in college station ..

    hope this helps..

In your previous post you imply that you want to watch it without the Internet. If that's the case, how would you expect to watch cable TV without the Interent and without cable TV access?

There are products that will allow you to pick up over the air signals and watch TV but you won't get cable channels. There is software/web sites that will allow you to watch some cable shows, but you need Internet access.

Either the Slingbox or Hava, they are both excellent.

Slingbox is awesome, but you have to have internet (or network if you're in the same house).

    there are tons of ways:

way one: have a vista laptop and desktop, put a tuner card in your desktop, and vista will share that tuner across the network with ease

way two: slingbox, hook a slingbox into your cable connection, and let the software do it's magic

way three: buy a USB tuner card and watch cable TV at home and over the air anywhere else.

way four: set up a VPN at home on a desktop, repeat steps from way one, and now anywhere with the internets you can stream TV to your laptop. CABLE TV ANYWHERE.

How do you set up Vista to do this? I have a tuner card in my desktop, but it doesn't get "seen" across the network. The only thing Vista sees is shared disks.

    Thanks

you have to set up you're laptop in media center as an extender. oh, btw it does have to be vista ultimate, or i think Microsoft lets you download a media center addon thingy, not sure tho. But yeah, go into media center, add an extender and poof, it's shared. If you don't have a G network it's not worth doing, if you have an N network it is absolutely pimp.
