The man totally sucks at basketball. I can not believe people actually think about chasing him next offseason. Or ever. He is a top-tier free agent next year simply because no one else is. Like when "What Lies Beneath" was the top movie at the box office. Nothing else came out that weekend. Even in his prime, Mutumbo was so-so, picking up garbage points. He has not averaged more than 13 points per game for a decade. Granted, he can rebound and block shots, but his offensive moves are more offensive than moves, which apparently does not keep him from demanding the ball. And he will be 35 years at the end of this season looking for a big contract. We would be better off giving Dream an extension, for real. Yuck. Mutumbo put up good numbers his rookie year, but since then, he has been an above average rebounder and an offensive liability. Has anyone actually watched him play other than his finger wave highlights? Probably not because his teams are like blocked off of TV because it is so ugly. Like on Cinemax at 3:00 am they will show his post moves, but other than that, no chance. He can not go left, he can not shoot, etc. To plan this year as if we would even consider chasing him is - to me - r****ded. I mean, we have no shot at Webber either, but at least we would want him. Its like having a fantasy about Delta Burke or something. If it floats your personal fetish boat, knock yourself out. Personally, it makes me puke. I would not take Dikembe if he offerred to play for free. I am not kidding, dude sucks, and so do the teams he plays for. Except for when Chucky Brown is on those teams, which is rare. Forget him. For better or worse, Cato is the best we will do for a long time, which does not mean we should not ship his a** to Golden State - the CBFC can look after him - if we can get Antawn. But keep in mind, we will not do much better than Cato in the next few years at center. CBFC ------------------
Before anyone chimes in to say "stellar defense", let me just add, we CRUSHED Atlanta in April with an alley-oop attack. I was there. We got him looking at Mobley/Francis while Shandon/Cato continuously ran around him for SLAM DUNKs. I counted 5 alley-oops on his ass. These are planned plays designed by Rudy. Mutombo got burnt bad. Look for more structured alley-oop attacks by the best, most verstatile coach in the league, based around on the fastest back-court in the league. kapayaaaaaa!
CBFC, you would not take Motumbo on this team for free? You don't know basketball if you are serious with that statement. Are rebounds and blocks important to a basketball team? ------------------ "There is no controlling legal authority", - Al Gore, upon discovery that he clearly broke campaign fundraising laws.
Rebounds and blocks are important, but his stats do not justify his CBA post moves and dubious brand of "leadership." He is an okay rebounder - certainly not Barkley or Rodman as far as impact. And why pay through the nose for an aging center? That is one thing we already have. . . CBFC ------------------
I was not aware that he is already 35. I think you are probably right that it would be better to stay away from the guy. Also, his little finger-wiggling crap is quite annoying.
Whoa, he is 35 isn't he? I take back any statement about wanting to pick him up. ------------------ Don't you have anything better to do?
Well said CBFC! Best thing you've said in 208 posts!....Mutumbo sucks BIG time! I'de give Hakeem an extension anytime rather than signing that no-good-for-nothing-but-finger-wagging Mutumbo! ------------------ Ostertag for Three!!!!!
Is he only 35? NBATalk/the toronto canoe paper had a pretty funny rumor that Dike was much older, and that this caused L. Wilkens to end any trade rumors back in the early summer. Africans have an incredible ability to look much younger than they really are... and Dike doesn't look that young. ------------------ I've posted so much that what I say must be true. The latest on Maurice Taylor
This is gonna be ugly. 1 - We don´t need an offensive presence at center. 2 - an above average rebounder? Mutumbo had a lot of 20+ rebounds last season. I certainly would say that´s a helluva lot more than "above average" 3 - His beauty is of no concern to me. I expect him to play hard (which he sutrely does), and if he is one ugly mutha, that´s his girlfriend problem, and not ours. 4 - Atlanta had a pretty good year when Laetnner was there, i recall, and was one of the first seeds of the east, unless i´m wrong. Oh, and they made the playoffs in every year Mutumbo was over there, unless i´m mistaken. 5 - The man is a tenacious defender and is arguably the center who matches up better with Shaq out there. If you don´t like him fine, but your points are completly moot. Better luck next time. That being said, if we had Jamison and Mutmobo in the middle, we would be talking about a champinship run, IMHO. One more thing: anyone wann check out Mutumbo´s injury history? I may be wrong, but i don´t remember him EVER being injured. ------------------ "The world is full of kings and queens who blind your eyes and steal your dreams. It´s Heaven and Hell!" People, come to your senses! Mutumbo, last year, was 1st in the NBA in rebounds at 14.1 per game 2nd in the NBA in FG% at .562 2nd in blocks at 3.28 per game. How on Earth can you say Dikembe has "CBA type post moves", when he is hitting his shots?? The fact is that he takes ALOT of high percentage shots, rebounds like a man possessed, and does not demand the ball. He has 3 good years left, and he would be a TREMENDOUS addition to the Rockets. ------------------ "You'd better put some ice on that". - Bill Clinton, giving first-aid advice to Juanita Broderick after he raped her. Full name is Dikembe Mutombo Mpolondo Mukamba Jean Jacque Wamutombo . [This message has been edited by Det The Threat (edited September 01, 2000).]
OK, agreed, Mutumbo couldn't consistently score in a catholic school girls league. But was the Delta Burke analogy really necessary? It's way to close to lunch here on the west coast for that kind of stuff. ------------------ "Someday I'd like to do something really meaningful with my life. I can picture Dikembe in four or five years, tripping over himself and wagging his finger after blocking some point guard during practice. Look, he is solid on the glass and rebounds, I may have been overly dismissive, but this dude is not what we need at all at all at all. Go after young free agents, not old ones. Mo Taylor, Chris Webber, Shandon Anderson, Eddie Jones - good investments, they have not peaked. Pat Ewing, Dikembe Mutumbo, Scottie Pippen, Tim Hardaway - bad investments, they have already peaked. Spend $ wisely. And TB3, I rarely comment on other members style or points of view, but that is an amazingly offensive signature. CBFC ------------------
i agree with chucky...he is on of those guys that makes you say to your self 'if i was 7 foot i could be in the NBA' that describes mister mutombo perfectly...( i do believe by the way if i was 7 foot i would be in the NBA..ohh well back to real world) he has never been offensive..i remember watching him at g-town in college and actually went to a game he was in...his play was uncoordinated and forced.. he is still the same...and always has been.. he will command a huge salary because some dumb a$$ team will pay but i hope its not the rocks... i just havent ever liked his game and i agree that he has some things to offer but his salary vs. lack of abilties do not equal out.. now if he played for free thats another story.. a side note that i heard somewhere that he is one of the stingiest guys around ..charges for autographs and the like and is a real SOB when it comes to money...for that reason it self i think the guy needs to be somewhere else...he is all about the cash and frankly he is ugly(doesnt matter but its hard to like a cheap ugly uncoordinated SOB)..i just dont think he is rockets material.... what has atlanta done with him? ------------------ i am rather like a mosquito in a nudist camp..i know what i ought to do but i don't know where to begin...
The truth is sometimes ugly, but must be told. ------------------ "You'd better put some ice on that". - Bill Clinton, giving first-aid advice to Juanita Broderick after he raped her.
Great sig, TB3. ------------------ "The only problem is I always think of the guitar player from Dokken when I hear his name." -Traj, on the possibility of George Lynch joining the Rockets.
Good luck on keeping your sig, TB3! At least mine was funny! ------------------ Don't you have anything better to do?
TB3- your blatant political stances weaken otherwise potentially decent posts... i could post a sig every time about reagan or bush ..or w bush but why..? it is pretty obvious that you are a republican but why mess it up for your party with such comments? Are your comments going to change some posters view and come to this grandiose change or realization...and vote republican? i dont think so... this politcal BS is ugly and doesnt help either side..its accusations and negativity that make passive followers of the politcal process like myself uninterested altogether...i am still going to vote but your attitude cetainly doesnt cause me to lean to the bush ticket... by the way i am undecided... for those of you from the stupid police..this is the right forum...it just got a tad off topic... ------------------ i am rather like a mosquito in a nudist camp..i know what i ought to do but i don't know where to begin...
The President stands accused of rape, and some people believe the accuser. I don't see that as being a "political stance". If the most powerful man in the world is a rapist, we had better raise hell about it! BTW, Chucky Brown sucks, and Dikembe is a quality center that would help the Rockets quite a bit for 2 or 3 years. ------------------ -The expert has spoken, so shut up and try to comprehend the truth.
No place to raise hell like a signature on an internet basketball bulletin board. You go! "Screw working in a soup kitchen, public school or whatever to make this country better, I am gonna make my political stance on a Houston Rockets BBS! Boo, Bill Clinton, you bad man! Me can see through the hype! Me know Dikembe is good and Clinton and Chucky Brown and Ann Richards bad!" Ahhh, fiddlesticks. I do not advocate this sort of fellow-fan-bashing thing, actually, I do not know whay I bother. RocketExpert and TB3, don't take this skirmish personally, you have good taste in basketball teams, and it counts with me. And actually Rexpert, you're right - my objection to TB3's signature has less to do with politics and more to do with rape - it is just not that fresh to drop that stuff into a basketball discussion as an afterthought. Rape a serious deal, putting it in a signature is like mentioning abortion in the list of ingredients on a twinkie wrapper. Forget politics - this is a matter of bad taste. But anyway, fellas, it is all good in the end i think. You might not love CBFC, but deep down we love you. We're a big tent group. . . CBFC ps. Dikembe Mutumbo still sucks [This message has been edited by CBrownFanClub (edited September 01, 2000).]
