Is there a way I can set up my computer so, for example, my brother could view a video I've shot in either MediaPlayer or Quicktime format from his house? I probably didn't explain that very well.
Or if you have a static IP, you could make your box a server and put the files in the public directory, and he could access them through the net like any website.
That's sounds like what I'd like to do I just don't know how to go about doing it. I'm on my 4th computer and still don't know enough about 'em.
Try an ftp client like CuteFTP or Bulletproof FTP. You could set it up so that all your brother needs is a password you give him and the IP address you're on.
The ftp option is probably the way to go. How big are the files you are talking about? As soon as the video gets reasonably large and of better quality, watchng it by streaming over the net is not really practical, unless both of you have broadband, and even then it will be a stretch. Another easy option would be for both of you to run a file sharing client like kazaa. You just name your file something obscure that he can search for and you could transfer it that way.
