He has 54 bombs with 22 games to go and he has 6 in the last 10 games. I would love to see Howard get past Maris since we have a pretty good idea that he isn't roided up. Though it's too bad no one really seems to care, because I think it's great for baseball.
Until MLB can test for EVERYTHING, no one should be below suspicion IMO. Therefore, I wouldn't see a big deal in Howard passing Maris.
I agree completely. There wasn't a way of detecting the stuff Barry Bonds was allegedly taking, so Howard shouldn't be automatically exempted. I'm not saying sports fans should run around McCarthy-ing every player that breaks a record, but it's still a possibility just the same. And home run records being broken aren't exactly good for baseball right now. Let's see a Ripken-type record or two before the HR record gets touched again.
Once Lance Berkman beats the record next year while all hopped up on Twinkies, Hostess will come under investigation.
Agreed... THG(i believe thats what it is called) cant be tested by the MLB because it would require a blood test and the players association prohibits this. Until there are samples of players blood locked up in a vault ready for testing there will always be speculation. I dont see players accepting blood tests either....At least not in the next 10-15years
Its not even that. The HGH blood tests have high false-postive and false-negative rates. It's still way too inaccurate to be used. The test isn't admissible in courts because of its verification problems. They would have to take blood tests now, and retroactively test several years down the line when the HGH test improves.
Thats better than never knowing...Keep it a vault....The asterix the records that may be broken if its found out they are on something
Howard doesn't exactly strike me as the sculpted steroid type the way Bonds and McGuire were. But if he's using HGH, then it could be helping him stay fresh for the 162 games.
An incredible year. I love that he's taking attention away from Bonds, too. I think the real question should be, can Howard get to the Astros?
