If they pull of two upsets in back to back weeks, that would be amazing. This is the year of the underdogs.
After last week, I'm rooting for East Carolina this season. Even though Pat White is one of my favorite college players of all time, I want WVU to lose this game. They've lost the magic. I've enjoyed them the last 2 seasons (because of Pat White and their offense) but they aren't the same without Rich Rodriguez.
Fanhood query: as a Rice fan, my natural reaction is to want ECU to lose since we share a conference and any other team's loss is in some way Rice's gain. However, I was on the c-usa bbs and I found fans from several different schools wishing ECU well (even from schools in CUSA East), their logic being if ECU wins again, it will boost the rep of C-USA. I get that CUSA needs all the positive exposure it can get, but to go so far as cheer for another team in your conference to win for the sake of the "greater good?" i don't know... do yall pull for other teams in your conference in non-conference games? with the exception of UH, i just can't bring my self to do it. thoughts? (I apologize if this is considered thread jacking, i just didnt think my musings warranted thier own thread)
I am and LSU fan, and hate rooting for anyone in the SEC, but I always find myself having a good feeling when other SEC teams have success because it just makes it that much better if we beat those teams... So, I have to say the more exposure for your conference the better, because recruiting for everyone in the conference becomes easier and you might get some gems that hate the other teams in your conference and want to play them for 3-4 years with pride. So, ECU is doing your team/ conference a favor IMO.
I always root for conference teams in OOC games. What harm does it do? It's not like the win counts in the conference standings. It you're a fan of UH (Rice doesn't play ECU this year), an ECU win can help because 1) it will boost your strength of schedule and 2) if you play and beat ECU, it makes it a bigger win. Besides, anytime a non-BCS team can knock off a ranked BCS team, it's a good thing. If it happened more often and there were more parity, maybe we could get rid of the damned BCS.
back on topic, ECU is just dominating every aspect of this game. Offense, Defense, Special Teams... despite their QB, not many weaknesses with this team. I am impressed with this team.
Not really. Did you see WVU play last year? Slaton actually had a very disappointing season. A huge dropoff from his 2nd year. It was arguably the worst of his 3 college seasons. Pat White was the man by far.
Even having a bad year, teams still had to account for him which opened up that offense. WVU's offense just isn't the same without Slaton on the field. They just can't run that wishbone effectively without a legit college RB in the backfield like Slaton.
How does a team that features White and Devine manage just 3 points? Pathetic Oh well movin up for the DUCKS!
Good game. Great scene at the end with the fans storming the field. I almost always root on the Big Ten when they aren't playing my team (Iowa) in all sports. Today I was rooting for Ohio to beat the Buckeyes though.
