or is he just too slow and his defense too bad? Its seems that if he can play power forward effectively, then we can utilize a big lineup of: Ming Cato Griffen Francis Mobley This could cause opposing team problems. Another good thing is that about this lineup is that Cato, Griffen, and Ming probably won't demand the ball that much (especially Cato). Thus Francis and Mobley can continue to just be the two man show while everyone else just concentrates on rebounds, blocks shots, and put backs, all while looking for an occassional pass.
No chance in hell can Cato play PF. Too slow, the other PF would get 10 fastbreak points a game. You know ugly it would be to see Cato try to guard Dirk or Gasol? Offensively, the PF needs to be able to face up. Do you really want to see Cato facing up for a jumper or drive? Offensively, he can only cherry pick and wait for a Francis pass.
Q: Can Cato play power forward? A: I didn't know he could even play.... I personally, am tired of bashing Cato... I wish he would prove us all wrong and just play. Show some freakin' heart... or just retire. I want to see sacrifice, heart and desire. Sometimes I think this guy just wants to say he plays pro ball and then go and drive his Purple Navigator around town... CATO PROVE US CATOBASHERS WRONG!!! please
Would you want him to? You have 3 guys who are natural PFs right now (KT, MoT, EG). The Rockets occasionally go small, and can play Morris or Rice there. If we already have a center in the game, I'd rather Morris or Rice play the 4 rather than Cato...or use any one of the 3 guys who have shown success there, and aren't in any kind of danger of being over the hill.
According to some Portland fans at the time of the ^%^^*& trade, he can't play center, but can play PF. Defensively, I don't think it would be too much a stretch for him to play Nit or Gasol. Offensively, the PF needs to be able to face up. Disagree. Especially if Ming (assuming his hype is 75% ability, 25% media) is playing Center. Do you really want to see Cato facing up for a jumper or drive? No, but he might be good at slashing to basket without the ball. A better question may be, can Ming play PF? Cato was 20% more efficient on boards last year than the previous season and 10% better on the boards than his first year with the Rockets.
I have seen Cato hit the FT line jumper pretty comfortably. If Ming has the great jumpshot that his supporters say, I don't see any reason why Kelvin can't just play the same offensive game he has been playing, mostly dunks with the occasional short range jumper. I like his defense at least as well as Mo Taylor's, so I don't see why he couldn't play PF for us. The shot blocking trio of Griffin, Cato, and Ming should dicourage penetrating guards and allow Cat and Steve to body up on the perimeter as well.
If Cato has the skills to become an above average PF, I would much rather see him in the game than KT or MT. KT is a tweener and both he and MT demand the ball too much. Cato could (let me emphasize could) develop into a decent PF due to his size. Another advantage of this is that it limits the number of scorers on the floor. With Francis, Mobley, Ming, and Griffen out there, you don't need another scorer, just someone to do the dirty work.
I could maybe see Houston useing him at the Power with Ming at center and Griff at SF, that would be an intimidating front line, But the best part would be they could also drop into a smaller faster lineup just as quick, that could also create problems A team with the ability to go BIG or small, and play both effectivlly Thank You
