It's been a long time since we had a Democratic governor in Texas -- can Bill White pull off the upset ?
Very unlikely unless Perry makes some sort of huge gaffe and accidentally blows himself up (see Clayton Williams vs. Ann Richards).
OK I admit it. I just want a bald governor. I have accepted there will never be another bald president, so i will accept governor.
Well according to Rasmussen, which is conservative leaning to begin with, Perry was leading White 47% to 41% a little over a week ago. The good news for White is that he was 9% behind a month ago, so he has closed the gap some in a short time period. http://www.rasmussenreports.com/pub..._elections/texas/election_2010_texas_governor
For those who say he has no chance, can you elaborate? I don't follow Texas politics very closely. I would like to see a map of Texas with a breakdown of liberals/conservatives or republicans/democrats. White seems like a formidable opponent; he just seems a lot more honest and humble than Perry. But of course, as a twenty-something Houstonian, I fit the demographic that would likely vote for him anyway. Who are the "swing votes" in Texas? Any good blogs that analyze the race?
Well, I'm a conservative that would vote for Hutchison over White, but am considering White over Perry. Does that help?
He has a chance. Especially if he can find some charisma. I'm a conservative leaning towards White..and I live in Dallas - so I haven't seen him like Houstonians have. Being a Moderate will definitely help him a lot & he's so popular in Houston that it will help carry his reputation in the rest of the state
It seems to me like the only reason Perry leads White right now is because most people outside of Houston don't know who Bill White is. In that light it's actually impressive that the gap isn't wider than it is, and I would think that he'll easily close the gap once he actually starts to campaign and people outside of Houston start to learn about him. He obviously has the more appealing resume. But that said, you never know how things will change once Perry starts to open his dirty bag of tricks -- Hutchison found that out the hard way.
say what you will about Perry, but he runs an excellent campaign. KBH ran a terrible one and just got beat by a superior campaigner. Burnt orange jacket in one of her ads reeked of desperation.
