Can Battier?

I would bet the under, FATCAT, unless McGrady is injured, then he's got a chance at it.

Battier has said he's excited about coming to Houston because his career kinda stagnated in Memphis so he wants to re-energize his career.

Also, this team NEEDS points. Battier will do what is asked of him.

TMac came in and deffered to Yao until JVG asked him to get more involved.

Yao is a selfless player and JVG asked him to demand the ball more.

As of right now, JHow is the next best scorer on the team and that ain't good. I think JVG will ask Battier to concentrate more on offense this season. If he does, it won't be hard to get 15ppg for a quality player like Battier. I won't be surprised either way, however. But I'll take the OVER.

 

i dont see why not. 15 + or - ppg is pretty reasonable i think. He will get plenty of looks. of course that is operating under the assumption that snyder/vspan dont have great seasons

 

well he's been in single digits for most of his career, only had 10 last year, and the only time he came clsoe was his rookie season (14.4); now he's a solid 3rd fiddle, it will be tough. I guess if he hits a v.high % of his 3 pointers it is plausible.

 

i care more about wins than points per game,i'm expecting over 10 under 15 something like a consistant 13 a night with very few nights under 10 and very few 20 point plus nights. His contribution on defense, spreading the floor and getting extra possessions will be much more important than his scoring.

last year he had 6 20 point games. and 5 were in the first month of the season.

notice that i did preclude talking about defense and hustle since thats the most important thing he does, its like talking about how many 3 pointers Yao ming is going to take, Battier's scoring is that far behind his other abilities obssesing this much over it is kinda silly. That being said i did give a solid answer saying it would be less, probably around 13 a game,. and showed how he doesn't have many big scoring games since he is a robin to a batman, (now he has 2). I mean reality is if Battier is scoring 15-20 a night we have injuries or issues with Yao and Tmac.

 

That's a stiff number.They'll be plenty of wide open looks,but I see Shane putting up 12 -13.
VSpan is going to cut into some of Battier's scoring.

If I were setting the line, I would go 13.5 or 14, including the risk of McGrady injuries.

 

Under. Battier will have a tough time scoring 15 with the Rockets' half court offense eating away the clock and two premium scorers on the team.

 

What's funny is that is EXACTLY the reasons I give for why he will get plenty of chances to score.
