Rondo improved every season since his debut in all parts of the game i'm wondering how far can AB improve? can he improve his defense and passing skills ala Rondo? thoughts?
Completely different players other than the fact that they're both fast. It's like asking: can Yao improve like Dwight? They're both big people, right? If you gave AB the passing, defending, and rebounding of Rajon Rondo, we would have the best point guard in the league right now.
Rondo will always be a better defensive player, that is why Rondo will always be better than Brooks, in my opinion. Brooks should be an All star though, better than Mo Williams.
I think the better question is, can Kyle Lowry improve like Rondo? Lowry is closer to the same type of player as Rondo than AB is, so asking AB to turn into Rondo really isn't fair. I just want AB to hit open shots and create for himself when the Rockets need points.
hahah, Rondo is so much better than Brooks. As a matter a fact, Brooks is not even a point guard. Even Lowry is better than Brooks as a point guard. yeah yeah, Brooks is a bertter scorer but that's not all that is required to be a point guard. Brooks plays better when Lowry is in because Lowry plays point.
there is not much room for improvement. brooks size and offensive mind will limit what he can do.... as for defense...he will never be able to slow down bigger pg's down
He can improve every year like rondo is doing, but he will never be top 5 PG in this league, he will never be as strong physicly as dwills or Rose, never be as smart/court vision as CP3 or Nash, and never be as good defender as Rondo Can he ever be an above average scoring PG?? YES Can he ever be an above average playmaking PG?? NO Can he ever be an above average defending PG??? NO
But it's not about scoring. We ALL know Brooks can score. It's the defense that Rondo plays that sets him apart from Brooks. Rondo may or may not develop a shooting touch like Brooks but he still scores around the basket like Tony Parker and he can also rebound and defend.
I hate these "player X really isn't position Y" statements about players that supposedly are playing out of position. All that is required of point guards in all honesty (in Adelman's offense) is that they can bring the ball up the court and initiate the offense... both of which AB can do.
If I'd want AB to mirror someone's game it would be a Kevin Johnson/Tony parker type player. Rajon and AB are just way to different a player and that's ok.
Brooks is a point guard. He's listed as a PG on the depth chart. He brings the ball up like a PG. He sets up the offense like a PG. So how is he not a PG?
Lowry can improve but I don't see him ever doing what Rondo has been doing in the playoffs the last two years.
"All that is required..." That's not entirely true. Morey said a month or two ago (paraphrase) that our back-court D was poor, and if it did not get better a change would have to made. It's a little harder for me to see them parting with Aaron after sending him to the lottery event, but you never know... I would not be that surprised to see him packaged in a deal. I don't believe that having Yao back will solve our defensive problems. It's tough to have 2 below average defenders in the back-court and expect to win a championship.
A better question would be... Can Aaron Brooks improve at the same rate as Rondo? Rondo improved his skills at a good enough rate to become a decent threat on offense. Can Brooks improve his defense enough to follow?
Well, brooks is the best player on the rockets right now. His improvement will come with better talent around on the court. In terms of brooks getting better, balance. Everything he needs he could do deals with balance. His pullup jimmy, his pick and roll, his attack of the basket. Just as I've said before, teams should always develop the talent. They couldve easily sent rondo awayand gotten an established short term player. What i've also stated was u want young guys to ascend quicker than the descend of the vets. If they keep yao, they need guys with a high ceiling. I would give scola a andre miller type of deal which is 2yrs and the 3rd non guaranteed. Hopefully, hill will be pushing him tot he bench after yr 2. Alabi or whiteside as the high upside 5. Hopefully in a couple of years, they can take over for elsie and have him come off the bench or play limited minutes.
