I'm looking to buy a digital camera (for the first time!) and I am not sure which one to get. I want a camera that takes good pictures. (You know, the kind that makes you look good ). So I heard Canon takes real good pictures. I also heard Sony's are great (Cybershots). How would you recommend these? Canon PowerShot SD1000 PowerShot A570IS PowerShot SD750 Powershot SD850(a bit pricier) Sony Cybershot DSCW55 Cybershot DSCW80 Also, please consider convenience and overall value. Thanks!
Canon... always pick Canon. Unless another camera in the same price range has some feature that the Canon doesn't have.
you're a contributing member, you've been around a while.. gotta search! http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=139445 (There are other threads, but probably too old to be of consequence)
The Canon PowerShot SD950IS looks NICE. And has great reviews! But is it worth $336 as oppose to the SD1000 at $165? I heard the SD1000 is very small and sometimes hard to use because of its size. Experiences?
Canon SD1000 is an awesome camera. Yeah, it's a little on the small size, but it's got good features and takes great photos. Plus, it's easy to use and cheap. Don't go Sony, their cameras suck.
SD1000 is a great camera according to me (I have it) and also the many reviews it has online, and the price makes it even better.
So Canon uses SD cards so its more convenient? Where can I get the SD cards and how much? Do I have to buy them separate? What about batteries? Standard AA batteries better than a rechargeable battery?
ebay is great for sd cards. canon usually includes a tiny sd card, but you will want to buy a bigger one. comes with a rechargable battery and a charger
www.dpreview.com is your friend. I'm a Canon guy, but Sony makes nice cameras as well. Canon's IS is the best around.
Why the IS?? Please elaborate.. Its almost double the price of the SD1000, SD750, A570IS, and A720IS. So is it that much better?
well the IS could be any of them...700IS, 800IS, whatever others have been released. IS just means Image Stabilization...i.e. compensates for a shaky hand. It's a hell of a tool to work against the inevitable blurry pictures. I'm not sure about the A-line IS cameras you listed above. They could be just as good...I never looked at the A-line because they're bigger, and I was looking for a more compact camera. (I don't see the point of getting a small one if you just end up with something bigger like that) So I'd stick with an SD and an IS. The specific model honestly doesn't make a *huge* difference as there have been relatively minor upgrades. Some of them are nice if you're willing to pay for them (like the processor upgrade, wide-angle lens, more optical zoom, etc.)
Asking which of Sony or Canon makes a better camera is like asking which Argentinean would you rather have in your team from Scola and Sony, and you pick Flopobli instead of the Canon.
Personally I tested hundreds of cameras that came back from Best Buy and cybershots seem to have the fewest problems, and are usually a lot more eye-catching than the boring canons. I'll take a cool-looking cybershot and save a hundred bucks.
