Camby?

Would love to have Camby backing up Yao.

 

I'd love to have Camby as a backup to Yao. Is he a free agent, or would we have to acquire him via trade?

 

We would have to get him via trade he only has one year left so if we could get him for scrapes that would be great.

 

I'm of the opinion that Camby departure from the Nuggets was as much a factor in their improved effort and defensive intensity as Billups arrival. Don't be fooled. He isn't actually good at defense.

 

He isn't a good defender because he gambles to much, steals and blocks don't mean a person is a lockdown defender but he would still be a great backup for Yao.

 

Great pick up if the Rockets can obtain him without giving up major pieces. Camby would be great with the second unit. He can add the defensive presence to that unit while the others like Lowry, Wafer and Landry can take care of the offense.

 

Dude's got a huge contract for a back-up though. If it was Mcgrady we were giving up...bring it.

You don't want Camby.

 

Camby is scheduled to make $7.65 Million next season. A little expensive for a backup. Our most expensive bench player for next season (currently on roster) is Brian Cook at $3.5 M.

To make the salaries work, we'd probably have to give up Hayes or Landry in any trade for Camby.

 

If by getting Camby, the team would lose Landry, I would prefer keeping Landry. The Rockets must try to obtain players without giving up major pieces. Yes, Landry is a major piece especially to the second unit.

Shoot, that's nothing compared to the $20 million backup people are clamoring for in the GARM.

 

Yea but Shaq is still dominant and when/if Yao goes down we can have a solid center still.

 

Shaq would be the power forward of the team. He would not be a back up.

 

I wasn't questioning Shaq's abilities, just his $20 million price tag for a backup role.

 

If we are just looking at basketball skill you are right. But when you factor in added ticket sales and merchandising and advertising dollars. You end up geting a very nice ROI from the cash side of things.

 

I'm not too concerned with ROI and crap like that (beyond just hoping that the Rockets remain generally profitable so they stay in Houston). I want a good basketball product on the floor and using $20 mil on a backup at any position likely means you have an imbalanced team with a huge hole or two in the starting lineup. It completely goes against Morey's philosophy of value per dollar.
