Is averaging as a starter . 4 of those 12 boards are offensive rebounds which means 4 extra posessions. Those are bordeline elite defensive big man numbers. Also as a Rocket he is 6 points 2 blocks 9 boards on 52%. He is light years ahead of Dalembert as a defender. His help defense in invalueable to a weak on the ball defender like Scola. A guy like Camby can make even Scola look like a ok defender.
Let's hope he stays a starter, he shows consistency which is lacking with Dalembert. I also like to keep him over Sam next year but with 1.5 million guaranteed on Sammy's contract, I don't think Morey feels the same way.
...and lulz to all the folks that were pouting about Morey's deadline deals. Nets weren't moving Deron, Magic weren't moving Dwight, and he flipped two DNP duds for a top 10 defensive C that wanted to be here.
Thought we had an option on his second year? If the 1.5 is still guaranteed, does it come off of our cap? Even if it does, I would pay 1.5 million to ship off Dalembert, IF we had another option to replace him. He's bad, but he is tall, and although he becomes complacent at times on the defensive end, he still is an upgrade from Jordan Hill. Even with Donatas, who will likely be a 4 until he bulks up, we would have three 7 footers. Three 7 footers that can play, some better than the others.
Why Morey didn't pull off such a deal in Yao era, I mean if we got a back up center at that time, Yao may never been down, there is never really a center to back up him, and we could even have a chance to win a ring.
I knew he'd a big help, but I've been surprised by his on-the-ball defense. Some of the stuff he did to Dirk a few backs back -- wow.
He's a huge help in the paint; not sure i like the plays we are running for him where he takes 18-footers. That's got to stop.
What do you call Dikembe Mutombo Mpolondo Mukamba Jean-Jacques Wamutombo if not a backup center for Yao? And yet Yao still had foot injuries that ended his career. Ok, so it wasn't Morey that traded Deke here. But it was Morey that tried signing Camby as a free agent in 2010, the year after Mutumbo retired, but Marcus ultimately decided to sign an extension with the Trailblazers. It's not as if Morey wasn't trying to get a veteran defensive center here. It just didn't work out until this season. Remember, this isn't a video game. It takes two real people to agree to a trade. Ya can't just offer a trade to Orlando, match salaries, throw in a couple draft picks, and expect to get a Dwight Howard in return. It's simply not that easy.
i knew what he could do, awesome D and providing better operating room for the slasher and luifa. I just didn't know he could do it for more than 20 minutes. hope he can go 30 minutes the rest of the way. if he dies he dies.
The guy been such a big player for us, he's got the playoff attitude about him...he has consistently had one of the best rebounding rates through his career...glad he is part of the team
That jabbing at the ball and jarring it loose was awesome, I've never seen a big man do that before for the Rox. Did anyone else notice Scola has been doing that now as well? (slapping at the ball, when the offensive player is in the triple threat position.)
The squad is looking good. Coming together. Excellent spacing and ball movement from the first unit, and defense weaknesses on the perimeter and in the paint have been eliminated. The bench, as it did during the first half against Chicago, sometimes looks lost. Keeping a couple starters on the floor with the second unit seems to help a lot. I realize this is hypothetical, but a second unit in the playoffs comprising some elements of Lowry, Martin, Budinger, Patterson, and Dalembert would be remarkable. That is pretty close to our starting 5 at the beginning of the season. I hope Martin and Lowry return, and I hope also they would be satisfied with coming in off the bench given team chemistry of late. The Rox will match up well with a variety of teams in the playoffs. They could go small ball, pack the paint with bigs (Camby, Dalembert, and Parsons), and play lock down D. Given the schedule and current play, a #5 seed is not out of the question and they should get to the second round at least.
I may get trashed for saying this but I'm going to anyway. Camby is every bit the player that Tyson Chandler is. The only two differences are that he can't do it for as many minutes a night and he does it for a lot cheaper. Before getting Camby I was strongly in the tanking camp. Now, however, I firmly believe we can make some noise in the playoffs. He's that much of a difference maker in my mind.
