The guy is a rookie playing in the preseason. I doubt he sees that much time in the first few months. What I can see him doing is being a spark off the bench if the scoring has dried up.
When we're having a brickfest and everyone is hesitant to shoot, we know Cam won't be fazed. He'll continue shooting even if he's 0-15.
Hopefully. Hopefully it isn't just Josh Christopher. Didn't he have some good preseason stretches? His tunnel vision is as bad as JC. But JC was not this strong and tall. Though people don't remember that he was very explosive like Cam.
If I'm Stone and Ime I make the case that the Rockets and Cam would be better off if they pull Cam aside and say that there are two options here. Either he goes down to the G-League and develops as a playmaker/lead guard. Work on his handle, his passing when he attacks the hoop, etc. Or he can play in the rotation right now in the Kevin Martin role with the expectation that he's out there to really get after it on defense, and only really look for his offense to shoot open shots. But the coaching for him will be to be a role player first, and get rewarded with PT by moving the ball, cutting, setting up the low block, and of course getting after it on defense. How he responds to that question being asked to him I think will tell the team alot about his commitment to winning, and his mentality.
The talent is there to be a 2 way impact player, but until he learns to turn down a shot he's not getting in an NBA rotation. He might have to spend time with RGV with the edict to let the game come to him not go on the attack every time the ball comes near you. However I would imagine D league time would just exacerbate his worst tendencies. Outright benched with NBA practices might be better for him.
I think he can be better than Jalen because he can shoot and defend. Strong, athletic, has very nice stroke doesn't have bad handles as far as i can tell but he thinks it's streetball. If he can learn from his mistakes he will be a very good player.
Height, enormous brute strength are things Green cannot learn I guess, maybe in another life with another vessel that is not this thin.
Feels like it’s more recency bias. Jalen still has enormous potential. If Jalen fell to 20, people would be treating him the way Cam is being treated now. I love both and would love if they were here long term.
The difference is how active he is in his rookie season, he is generating steals and deflections at a very good rate. Jalen came into the league high flying but he was more reserved on the court, worked his butt off privately. I do not think it is bias, I even went out and said Whitmore might be a bust early on. Little did I know.
