    There's nothing to bring down.

Yes getting rid of tunnel vision is a new role for someone who has the ball as the primary option his entire career. that' means your first instinct doesn't become your first instinct anymore and he has to process other reads at this level. Aka learning a new role. Going into the nba provides levels. This isn't the ymca

You do realize he only averaged 10 shots per game last year at Villanova, right? He was 4th on the team in scoring. Does that sound like a primary option to you? He wasn't playing YMCA basketball, he was on a structured team.

Quit creating a false narrative and making excuses for him and be intellectually honest. It's quite possible whatever amount of talent he has, it will be limited by selfishness and low b-ball IQ. We'll see.

Cam is this year's cult player. I do hope the cultists are right about him, but doubt it.

Sam Vecenie had him as 4th on his big board and is a huge believer in him. A lot had to do with the terrible coach at Villanova who didn't know what he was doing. The talent is apparent. There's nothing culty about it.

I know exactly who he is.

He played last year at Nova injured which is why he started the season late. Congrats you can look at box stats. Did you also notice Justin Moore played like 13 games. but but he was 4th. Cam's job on Nova was to score the ball as a 18 year old true freshman. you do realize 10 shots in college is considered a primary option right? Surprise to you? Clearly someone who doesn't follow college basketball

This is why having discussions with folks who don't follow college can be taken with a grain of salt. but but i looked at the stats page and saw he was 4th

Oh look someone is already calling for what he will be limited by at 19 years old. Haven't we heard this before. last year 19 year old Jabari was a bust. That sure aged well

Its hilarious how folks like you try to bring down players who play well. Oh i need to find that one turnover that happened to completely disregard everything else he did last night. Oh i need to find that one time he shot the 3 when he should have passed. Everything else doesn't matter. Classic cf's stupidity

Cult player? LMFAO. just dumb and makes no sense

It's nice to see a Rockets rookie get off to a scorching hot start for once.

I’m in a cult. It’s leaders are Cam, Amen, Tari, Jalen Green, Sengun, and Jabari. Im hoping for all the best for every single one of them. Bless you all!

There are some for sure but not that many at 18 or 19 IMO. That level of grown man strength along with his elite athleticism, leaping ability, etc. That's pretty uncommon. There's a ton of maturing physically that happens from 19 to 25. I think he's coming in pretty Lebron like in THAT ONE area. Court vision, BBIQ, passing, etc... hell no.

Cam Whitmore is in the 96th percentile in Rim%, 90th in 3PT%, and 97th in steal percentage. I get that the best bet is almost always to bet a guy won't be a star, but man is he having a good start.

The skill that needs to add to his bag is a better court awareness. A scorer who doesn't pass is limited because the defense will know how to trap you.

Again, Jalen is/was the same way. It makes the game much harder for him. This season Udoka is trying to change him. You hear the coach keep saying that Jalen needs to make the right read. And you can see he is trying to look for his teammates more. But he's still a long way to go. I am pretty sure Cam has a long way to go too. Unless he turns out to be a generational talent, he will struggle when defenses begin to expose his weakness.

I feel they should play to their strengths, the problem with Jalen is more that he is limited and he is not confident......atm the better passer of those 2.

If he consistently plays good defense, and passes/playmakes for others in addition to his scoring, let the best man win minutes. Whoever gets us the wins as a team, we'll see who develops over time.

Young players have flashes but consistency is what separates true stars.

I think you mean "Cam down".

I'm here for it. Don't know if it will last but I say let's get Jalen used to the 6th man role and move Cam into his spot. What good is a shooting guard who can't shoot.

I'm not a statistical anything but the eye test tells me Cam is something to keep and eye on.

Cam's incredible. I am blown away by his athleticism. He's uncommon amongst uncommon men. He's surrounded by .001% athletes and at times make them look like they're just there to spectate.

I'm not going to criticize him for anything yet. Of course there are aspects I'd like to see addressed but this kid worked his way back from multiple D league stints to break in to IME UDOKA's lineup. You aren't doing that w/out putting in work.

Yes, and Ime is probably telling him to score especially on his jumpers since the team needs it desperately to get Sengun some space in the block. You can see Cam growing in court awareness daily ,though he still has a ways to go.

BTW Jalen may be improving too. Only issue is roster development and money.

Wow! So negative. What do you think about Jalen or Sengun, Jabari or Tari. I will assume you have already written off Amen.

My main point was it is easy to poke holes in someone else's estimate when you don't put out any predictions of your own. I am not confused that everyone doesn't agree with my speculation, but sounds like you mostly do. As humans, we have a negative bias to protect us from hurt and disappointment. It is easy to bet against someone being a GOAT, Hall of Famer, an All-NBA level player, or All-Star. You could make this bet on any player with or without ever seeing them play; however, some will be. That is why scouts, analysts, coaches, and player development specialists have jobs. The purpose of threads like this is usually to debate but seems like the only counter point is 'it is extraordinarily rare for someone to keep his current level of production,' which I think everyone agrees. It is also extraordinarily rare that someone have the size, strength, physical ability, skill, or motor that Cam Whitmore has at 19 years of age. While there is always room for disappointment predicting a player's future production, there are actually some factors that are great indicators of future success.

We can disagree on that. First, I think you overestimate how difficult it is to score 30 in the NBA. I think Cam has top 5% skills in NBA scoring ability and efficiency. His numbers back that up. There are probably 100 people in the NBA who could average 30 pts with enough shots. A better question than if a guy can score thirty is probably how many shots this player would need to score thirty or how many quality shots would that player needs to score 30. The most efficient guys (Steph/Harden) will be sitting near or above 30 pts if they get at least 20 shots a game. The least efficient would probably need 25-30. Most guys won't get more than 22 shots a game if they aren't at 30 pts and their team isn't tanking. For reference, Jordan with 22 shots is a lock for 30 pts, Kobe 22-24. Both Jordan and Kobe shot over 27 shots per game to get their highest scoring total. Wilt shot 39.5! times per game to average 50. Obviously, 3pt shooting helps to lower that number.

I think the Rockets have quite a few guys who could score 30 with 25 shot attempts per game. I think Cam would easily score 30 with 22-25 shot attempts. We could debate that all day, but hopefully you have more ammo than it would be really hard or its rare. I think Cam is one of the rare players whose role, efficiency, skillset, position, and productivity could actually justify giving him that many shots.
