Dr. Jack named Calvin Murphy the best fighter in the NBA! http://espn.go.com/nba/columns/ramsay_drjack/1311287.html The best fighter that I remember in the NBA was Calvin Murphy. Even though he was only 5-foot-9, he would land five punches by the time the other player got his hands up. He was dynamite. Short and quick, he knew how to use his hands. Nobody wanted to mess with Murphy. In NBA history, he is the pound-for-pound champion.
On another note, Calvin was named to the top 5 high school basketball players ever list at SG in SLAM... The rest of the team btw was: PG: Kenny Anderson, Archbishop Molloy, Queens, NY, '85-89-- SF: Damon Bailey, Bedford North Lawrence (IN) HS, '85-90-- PF: Wilt Chamberlain, Overbrook HS, Philadelphia, PA, '51-55-- (called a PF simply becaus they couldn't leave him off and C was taken by Kareem) C: Lew Alcindor, Power Memorial HS, New York, NY, '61-65--
Don't know..about them it says: Kenny Anderson: Some kids may have a hard time reconciling today's NBA pg with the legendary high schooler, but that's the truth. A playground prodigy in Queens, Kenny attended Archbishop Molloy, where coach Jack Curran brought him off the bench as a freshman and let him develop his ill handle, passing and mid-range J. Before wowing fans at Georgia Tech, Kenny scored a dizzying 2,621 points at Molloy. Recruting expert Tom Konchalski calls Anderson "the best high school guard I've ever seen." Kenny would agree. Damon Bailey: In a state that treats big high school games like holidays and produces greats like Oscar Robertson, Rick Mount and Glenn Robinson, Bailey might've been the biggest folk hero of all--and he was undoubtedly the biggest scorer, with 3,134 career points. When Bailey was a varsity starter in the eighth grade, Indiana coach Bobby Knight went to see him and said he was "better than any guard we have right now." The end to his prep career came when his team won the state title in front of 41,000-plus (!) at the Hoosier Dome. Even thought the undersized Bailey (he was a 6-3 rebounding swingman) had a decent career at IU and never got out of an NBA training camp, the rousing ovation the current businessman got at IU's All-Century Team reception last year showed that the memories will never die.
