I love Calvin Murphy on his takes with the Rockets. He made a point today on his show that I believe is a smart idea to fix the problem with Yao being fronted.... Since Yao would be open to the glass (due to his man fronting), have the shooter take a shot at the board where Yao can rebound inside the paint. Have the shooters aim for the glass with their shots.

It's not like the weakside players won't have time to get in the lane by the time the ball gets there. Yao is also not a strong rebounder. I think he was joking man.

Stupid idea. Even when Brooks, Wafer would ignore Yao when he's fronted and chuck up shots, Yao couldn't get the rebound cause he isn't quick enough.

What you're suggesting is instant turnover.

Yea, not to mention our guards are horrible at sealing their man off for the rebounds.

Something the Rockets had in Francis and Sura.

Calvin's radio show sucks. I hate to say it but its horrible.

I loved him as a commentator but my respect for him has gone down.

Artest is so off on his shot every other game that he'll end up overshooting the backboard

I get the feeling Calvin wasn't joking and just doesn't realize your correct counter assessment. Absolutely need a key rebound at a particular moment? Yao's not your man.

LOL... Worst idea ever. Yao's not athletic enough to grab those rebounds quickly off the glass. And we would probably miss. The ball wouldn't go right to Yao.

If Yao did not have balance issues, could hold his position, and react quickly to grab the ball off of thrown passes towards the backboard by his teammates, he would have no problem catching the lobs thrown to him. The very limitations which prohibit yao from catching lob passes are the ones which will not let Yao carry out Calvin Murhpy's game plan.

Or just have Von underhand toss the ball from the 3 point line off the backboard and slam home the rebound. :D

As if it wasn't a joke from the start, just think about where the ball is thrown into Yao on most possessions. THE WING.

Nobody is strategically banking anything to anyone from there.

what idiot Calvin Murphy didn't consider is the fact that Yao can't grab an offensive rebound to save his life..

there is only one solution to "fronting": having the big guy NOT allow his defender to front him.. wanna know how? it's called hitting the weight room a little more frequently and learning how to hold your position and not let your man slide in front of you.. it's really embarrassing how you can essentially neutralize Yao by sending Brandon Bass to front him..

Don Nelson did the backboard passing when Chris Webber was still with Golden State. I think after a few games they did not do it anymore. It was effective at times.

if we had a true point guard, yao would get better touches, but we gotta use what we have. aaron brooks dribbles too much and doesnt look for yao. reverse swing and lob. i know

thats called an offensive rebound, which yao isnt exactly adept at from it seems.

and the off-the-backboard idea was a thread from last week, though it was about intentionally passing it off the backboard instead of guiding a missed shot attempt to carom into Yao's hands somehow
