Does anyone know of a duo that has broadcast their teams games longer than these guys? They've gotta be going on 20 years or something. It irritates me because league pass never has them on (though they do tonight vs the wiz) but i'm always hearing calvin or bill's voice in NBA commercials so they must get some props. im sure this has been talked about quite a bit but i havent seen anything recently, so if anyone has anykind of stories or info about these guys i'd love to hear it! thanks!
They're the best duo in the NBA. The only voice I like better than Van Chancellor's is Calvin Murphy's. I'd love hearing them cussing each other out. That'd be hilarious.
i love listening to Bill and Calvin. If only Worrell could get Calvin to call Astro Home games with him over the most boring houston sports commentator Bill Brown. Calvin may not no anything about baseball but i'm sure he'd be pretty entertaining.
Listening to Worrell on baseball is one of the most mind-grating things on the planet. Much more painful than Francis dribbling out the last 15 seconds of a game, and jacking up a three. I actually do like Bill Brown and Jim Deshaies... Brown's voice actually keeps me 'awake' at times during Astros games. He has the perfect inflections when the team makes a good play/or not. Very proffesional. Houston is lucky to have great PBP guys.
Calvin replaced Mark McLemore (help me, someone, with his name...former pro player) after he got into trouble with the law, late 80s? I don't remember any details and hope I am not talking too far out on this. So, please help me with the FACTS.
I like when Bill replayed Calvin chowing down on some cookies during one of the timeouts. Calvin was so surprised by it that he got excited and accidentally spit on Bill while he was talking. Calvin responded by saying something like "You caught me eating cookies and now my lips are loose"
I'm glad those guys did the game last night they are really the best. The thing is with NBA League Pass I don't get to see them as much as I used to, but they are so refreshing when they do come on. First of all they are never personally negative about the opposing team, yet are obviously homers for the Rockets. Other teams announcers often are personally negative about the Rockets players. The Phoenix announcers laugh openly at Yao Ming. Many of the other team's announcers don't really follow the Rockets so they often use rumor to slam the players such Mo Taylor or Steve Francis. Even those rumors are out of date and have been shown to be false the commentators haven't kept up beyond the initial outburst and still say them. Some announcers on really bad teams, seem to praise the Rockets more than their own team. While I think it's funny I don't really respect selling your team out like that. Bill and Calvin will mention when a team is bad, or a player isn't playing well, but not with the personal attacks that so many other team's broadcasters do. I wish they were on all the time.
I believe that the league pass has a contract with Fox sports and the rockets games are shown on channel 51 which isn't Fox, that is why we usually don't hear Bill and Calvin. Next year I believe that the Rockets are moving back to Fox and therefore on league Pass we should get to see Bill and Calvin more.
Occasionally, you see people complain about Bill and Calvin and their "homerism" and their announcing, just watch some of the other NBA broadcasters and you'll be thankful for B&C... You gotta love Calvin saying "my brother..."
I saw a Rockets game on ESPN Classic that was played in the early 80s. Bill Worrell was doing play-by-play, and it was a real hoot to hear him commentating on Calvin Murphy the PLAYER. I remember this exact quote: "And there's the Murph, for two!"
