I just found out that the LA Lakers NBA championship video to be released later this month will include a special song by the Dave Matthews Band. Sounds like it will be cool, but I can't stomach buying a Lakers video.
Cool!! I hadn't heard about this, but I just looked and found some info. The song is going to be "Where are You Going?" <a href="http://www.anyoneseenthebridge.com/msgboard/showthread.php?threadid=64523&highlight=lakers">Here's where I found it</a> I also found <a href="http://www.nancies.org/boards/showthread.php?threadid=57320&highlight=lakers">This thread about the Nets to be interesting though
I'd appreciate it if they wouldn't ruin my favorite band of all time with Laker imagery, thank you! RM95...have you read the Rolling Stone article yet?? what's it say??
It talks about how they pretty much hate the fans who hate Everyday. OK, maybe not all fans, but those who are open about it and take signs to concerts that say "Glen Ballard is the Devil" or wear shirts saying "Long Live Lillywhite". Dave had the sign removed because he said he didn't want the headline in the paper to read that "Hippie Rocker Dave Matthews pounds fan in the head. Stefan said he had a "fan" rip him at 2:00 in the morning for Everyday...didn't like that. I didn't know that they weren't that close off the stage. They all take seperate buses (I think this is a new thing), and don't really hang out at the hotels and stuff. One of them said they aren't the best of buddies. Carter is probably the leader even though it's Dave's band. It was him who finally spoke up during their funk while originally recording The Lillywhite Sessions, or The Summer So Far, as it's known to them. Dave said he probably wouldn't have said anything. Boyd has a solo album coming out, Stefan is writing his own music and Carter wants to write movie scores. Not much about Leroi, which makes me even more intrigued. He's obviously the quiet one of the group, and he didn't even have a quote in the entire article. Dave wonders how long they'll go on. RM95 cries. There's a picture on the inside cover from the Houston show we went to MadMax...pretty cool. The story I told about Dave picking up his black friend so he could enter a store was not entirely accurate. It was an ice cream shop and it said they couldn't sit there...so they put them in their lap. They were served, but they said they got out of there quick. All in all, good article with a lot more info, this is just the stuff off the top of my head Still a little scared about how long they'll stick around. Here's the cover: Or not.
you're killing me!!! not sure how much longer they'll go on??? did he say it in a way that indicated they were getting tired of DMB??? NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!! What funk during Lillywhite?? What did Carter speak up about? What did he say??? I kinda figured that Carter was the leader...just has a certain air about him. wow...they really seem to enjoy playing together on stage...I mean Carter and Dave and Boyd are all smiles. the other two just seem like more reserved people in general. did you get the impression they don't like each other??? Carter wants to write movie scores....interesting...until the last few years, my favorite group of all time was the Police...now it's DMB...both drummers wanted to pursue careers writing movie scores (Stewart Copeland). Damn!!!! Say it ain't so!!!! I'm seriously gonna be disappointed if we don't get at least one more new album out of these guys. I was hoping they'd stick together...they draw comparisons with their fan base to the Grateful Dead...I was hoping I could still go see them live until I'm 50. Was hoping I could take my son to see them live, since he loves listening to them and watching his Listener Supported DVD (which by the way, he's REALLY gotten into...can't go to sleep without dancing and singing to one song at least...."Daddy, Dance! Daddy, Dance! Daddy, Maffews!!!")...guess I'll have to take him next year at age 3!!! the Everyday complaints are soooo silly. it reminds me of the criticism of Lucas for telling HIS story in Star Wars...or the criticism from Jordan fans for coming back and risking losing HIS legacy. Ultimately, this is THEIR music career...not mine. I have no ownership interest in this group....I'm a big fan...the guys wanted to explore some different sounds...fine. It is my least favorite album of their recordings...but it does nothing to diminish how much I love their other music. Ridiculous....
No, they mentioned how much they love playing together. They all have earpieces and little microphones and talk between songs. Stuff like the cute girl in the first row, etc. I didn't get the impression that it would be soon, but that it would happen. That's just me. Dave was depressed during the original recording of LWS. I may have read why somewhere (probably in this last article, but I don't really remember), and the whole group felt the strain, and it was Carter who finally said we need to change something. Carter also sounded kinda bitter about Everyday. He said it was a Dave Matthews/Glen Ballard album, not a Dave Matthews Band album. He said it was an excellent record, just not the band's. I wouldn't worry though. Maybe Vengeance can shed more light, he seems to know more than us. BTW, another DVD coming out in November!!
Wow! That new DMB DVD plus the Spiderman DVD would make excellent Christmas gifts for MadMax, if you're interested! What was changed?? What change did Carter initiate during LWS?
Basically (I think) that they couldn't go on like that...they needed a break/change, etc. I'll try to break out the last cover because it was discussed in more detail there.
I'm not sure they really took a break, or what...I just basically think he spoke up and said they couldn't continue in their current state. When I get home, I'll dig out the old interview.
So Max...YOU are the bad luck guy, eh? I don't really recommend that. At age 3 he'd have one hell of a contact high. What to get for the newest legal power broker who has everything....hmmm....oh he just listed it. LOL
power broker??? hardly!!! i'm content just being a guy who happens to practice law for a living. yeah...the police thing really sucked. i was in like 5th grade or something...but i remember they made the announcement they were breaking up around the time of LiveAid (around 1985, i think). but i would be super disappointed if DMB broke up. sting parlayed a solo career into experiments in all types of different music...i wonder if dave would do the same. but as vengeance said before, it's the mix of these guys that is so amazing.
If Dave ends up doing musical experiments, that could be an opportunity for you Max. I'm sure he'd need somebody to play the triangle or tamborine or something.
exactly!! i've been meaning to find a way to work the triangle into DMB just like Ed Grimley! actually...i'm planning on taking some guitar lessons...starting early next year, i hope. that's when some of my commitments to church leadership expire...so i should have some more free time then. i already have an acoustic guitar, and i would love to be able to play for my son...and hopefully teach him how to play, too. at least teach him an appreciation for playing music. plus...it might make my wife like me even more!
Yeah Max...chicks dig music. Since my wife was born in Arkansas, you should see her swoon when I pick up my banjo.
