In response to the recent plague of disgustingly healthy threads about fruits and vegetables (aka sucker food), meaties need to unite. There are many BBQ joints that I have not yet had the pleasure of visiting, but it is rare that there is a decent BBQ joint in Houston that I have not heard of. But Robb Walsh finds them. Check out Robb's article in the Houston Press on Thelma's. http://www.houstonpress.com/issues/2002-07-11/cafe.html/1/index.html While on the subject, I will pass along a recent (to me) BBQ discovery. Hunger pangs struck about half way through the numbingly boring drive from Houston to SA. I couldn't resist the lure of Flatonia where I stopped in at Joel's (has there ever been a worse name for a BBQ joint?). Its an appropriately run down shack on the feeder road on the north side of I-10. Been there some 30 years. Cowboy style. Brisket and sausage (homemade) were both very good. Sandwiches were served on white bread, no fancy buns. They had homemade jerky, but I didn't get any. I didn't have no stinkin' fruits or vegetables, so don't ask. Next up, fried catfish thread.
