I honestly think that the Modern Warfare setting is what got COD4 to the top.
Going back to the world war theme is a mistake by Treyarch IMO.
Looks like COD5 is going to be available on the Wii.

Would you have been interested in a COD in vietnam? or korea? I would. Seriously, WWII has been beaten to death with this series. (4 games already, am I right?)

I agree that WWII is stupid. They've already topped off in modern times. Going back to old boring guns will be a mistake.

Also, I do not want to drive cars in multiplayer. This is not Halo. This is Call of Dutes. Looks like I will just continue to play COD4 forever. Forever ever?

    Forever ever.

Im still going to buy COD5 when it comes out, but I have a feeling I'm probably gonna be like "screw this" and go back and play cod4.

At least COD6 and the rest will be made by Infinity Ward, but we'll probably have to wait til 2011 or something for that lol

Ok, I don't understand. I know Infinity Ward had at least something to do with COD4, but Treyarch is making this one?

Why is it a different company? It's then going back to Infinity ward?

They basically take turns in developing.
Treyarch did COD: United Offensive, COD 2: Big Red One, COD3, and will do COD5.

    Infinity Ward did the rest.

    In other words.
    Treyarch sucks balls.

That's weird. Why is it that way? Seriosly though, the Treyarch games named are the crappy ones.

This thread made me think of a Revolutionary War FPS. Or even a Civil War FPS.

I wouldn't be surprised if the community just continued to play COD4 ala NFL2K5. I wonder if they can continue to patch, update, and add content to COD4 into the future? Probably not.

the publisher Activision dictates it this way, since they own the Call of Duty franchise

as JD says, Infinity Ward and Treyarch are two totally separate and different development houses

and yeah, Treyarch sucks compared to IW

I think I mentioned this before, but Treyarch was working on COD5 before Infinity Ward was even done with COD4. The reason they have two developers work on the same franchise is so that the game can be in development for ~2 years, but Activision can still put out a COD game every year. A few publishers do this with some games (Ubisoft did it with the Splinter Cell games IIRC). Of course, you run into the problem where every other game tends to be good, but since people still buy them every year, publishers still like the idea.

COD4 was a "risk" going with the modern warfare theme, so Treyarch went the "safe" route (maybe even Activision told them what to do). As it was mentioned, Infinity Ward will work on all future COD games, so they'll probably deal with moder warfare or something like that...not to mention they'll probably be good games. Of course, I think (or hope) most of us realize that WWII FPS games aren't really a "safe" choice anymore, but unfortunately these publishers don't realize that.

Activision should get Treyarch to just re-release COD3, but just call it COD5. :)
Can they? Probably so. Will they? Probably not.

What's the point of adding new content to an old game when Activision will want to sell you a new version in 1-2 years (hoping future COD games take 2 or more years to be released, but who knows).
