Sure he looked a little slow and a little scary really (hes not a pretty man), but I was pleasantly surprised by his game once he was able to stay in the game for a reasonable amount of time and the Rockets started going to him. I mean, the guy had a really bad game for 3 and a half quarters, but he put together a nice stretch towards the end and showed why Rudy really picked him. Was it worthy of play for a 9th pick in the draft. MAybe not, but he was a 15th pick, not a 9th pick, and I think people often forget that. He WILL be a solid role player. SOmething Ive heard before and was quite apparent from last nights game is that Collier plays extremely well when he believes in himself, when he gets the confidence. You could see taht throughout most of the game Collier was having trouble, so it made his presence even more useless. But once he started doing well, he really started doing well. IT will be a slow process for him, but with improved foot speed and the teachings of Olajuwon and CD, this kid should turn out to be OK...most likley even as good as, if not better than, PRyzbilla (because hes got a better head on his shoulders) ------------------ When I die I want to go peacefully like my grandfather. I agree JayZ, He had some flashes in between the "deer lost in the headlights" look on his face. I think he defintely has a nice feel for the basket and a pretty lefty hook that, once he makes his go to move, will be his staple shot (and hard to stop). I find it hard to believe, however, that he led the ACC in rebounding. He seemed out of place under the boards. He snagged a few. But I figured a guy that led a powerhouse conference in boards would fare better down there. Stay tuned..... ------------------ HOOP-T ------------------
I also agree, I like his size he can create alot of mismatches and probably can gaurd the tim duncans and chris webbers better than KT. If he gets a little quicker I think he'll fit in nicely. ------------------
I can just hear the action. Play by Play Man: "Collier feed from Norris, goes up for it, BLOCKED! Oh my! Did you see Chris Mihm get up for that? Hehe! Wow the 7 footer from Texas has sure lived up to his billing tonight. Let's take another look" Analyst: "Mihm has been really impressive for the Cavs. Jason Collier thought he had a clean look at the basket but Mihm came out of no where and sent that ball flying into the Rockies" Play by Play Man: "Let's send it over to our sideline reporter" Sideline Reporter: "I'm standing next to Greg Ostertag's father...excuse me I meant to say Jason Collier's father. Sorry, your sons both play alike" ----End of Transmission--------------------- ------------------ Home of Rashard Lewis and the Mighty Rams - Alief Elsik
I'll give him that,a nice hook shot, but I don't feel he can keep it in his hands long enough in the low post to get it off. He gets it stripped alot, from what I see he needs to work on his hands. Also, posting him up is going to be a nightmare. ------------------ Rockets For Better, For Worse......'til death do us part!
I don't know if you guys have heard about this... but on a radio interview (950 AM) yesterday (around 5:50pm), CD mentioned that Collier has some stiffness in his back (or something like that). That may explain some of his problem. I haven't seen him play, so I may be out of line here. ------------------ "All doors must remain open in order to maintain proper air flow." - a quote from a US Home Customer Service Manager. I didn't know that MoonBus....thanks for the scoop. Maybe we are being a bit harsh then. ------------------ HOOP-T ------------------
Must be nice to actually get to watch games. I'd love to have in informed opinion on Collier's play thus far, but I'm out in the middle of nowhere. So you guys are my only source of info right now.....God help me. ------------------ "I'll take a Dream Shake for two, please."
I'm sorry guys but collier is horrible. He was too slow in college to guard anyone and he is too slow to guard in the NBA. The guy sat out most of the game...why?? because he can't guard so he has to hold and foul players. Thank god the rocks draft one decent player. GOO LANGHI!! ------------------
I know Im going to get laughed at for arguing fouls in a summer league game, but almost each of Colliers fouls were of the type that would not have been called in a NBA game. His very first foul, for example, was kinda bogus. That bald post player for Utah (cant remember his name) who was left handed simply made a baseline move, COllier actually got there in time, cut him off and got called for a foul??? ANyways, he is kinda slow, but Arvydis Sabonis is just as slow. ------------------ When I die I want to go peacefully like my grandfather. Not screaming like the passengers in the back seat!
JayZ, Just as I keep hoping that Langhi will be the steal of this draft, I'll wait to pass judgment on Collier. However, I just have to disagree with you here. What I saw of Collier wasn't impressive. If he's injured, so be it; maybe he'll improve as he gets well. He has a very nice hookshot that I'm impressed with. He shot an airball, was dunked on by a guard (DeShawn), fumbled a fast-break pass that was headed right for his chest/gut, and picked up fouls rather quickly. He seemed slow-footed on defense, to boot. I still cringe at other players drafted after him that are doing well, but I won't harp on that... like I said... I'll wait and see. ------------------ Just shut up and post
I didn't make it to the game today, but I did try to tune in to the local radio station to catch the score and some plays. When the Jazzholes weren't totally stoked on their major FA chance of Danny 'pop there goes my ACL' Manning, Coach Tom Nissalke took the time to comment on Collier. "I like him alot. He's big and he is a really good shooter". "The biggest compalint about him is that he's soft... I say so what, there aren't that many tough guys out there anyway". He and the dork next to him then proceeded to comment on the 10 toughest players of all time. Nissalke mentioned Mr. Mean in that list. I was excited to hear good reviews on Collier, but apparently the Coach hasn't seen Amal McAllister. Amal was everywhere during the Bulls game last night. His passes were lightning, he moves like SA w/o the ball and he would tip the ball two or three times out of an opponents reach to claim the ball. If he plays like he did yesterday, everyday, then he'll be playing in the NBA soon. ------------------ The ClutchCity 500.
I agree JayZ. Collier had some flashes. He had nice agility, could run the floor, a sweet looking hook shot, and some other things that I liked. He wasn't great this game I could tell, but he wasn't disappointing either, and from what I saw the potential is there. ------------------ http://www.saveourcuttino.com
Jason Collier is a whole lot better than what he showed last night. The problem was that the Rockets kept trying to go to Kenny Thomas in the post last night. In the early going, his little spin move on the low block was working but after that, he was either missing badly or getting his shot blocked. I was never really enamored by KT last yr and still am not very impressed now. Remember the few times the Rockets actually decided to go to Collier in the post? You got to see that smooth left handed hook esp the one on the baseline. He did that a lot at Georgia Tech last yr and that is pretty much an unguardable move. His footwork on his hook is very fundamentally sound. He also has a turn around jumper and face up move from mid range, but he did not get to display that b/c the Rockets kept feeding to KT all day long. I hope Collier gets the ball more in the Cavs game so people can start seeing exactly how good he is. ------------------ Check out the Best Source for Draft Info Draftsource.net
