I don't think he has the guts to go to another team for a couple of years. Hakeem has lived in Houston for 20 years, his family is here, all his business interests.

Do you honestly think that a man that rich will go live in some Condo away from his family for a few million more dollars a year?

I don't !! I think Dream has only one choice, and he is having a hard time dealing with it.

Houston is his home, he will stay.

I just don't think he really WANTS to go to another team or city.

    Would you?

I hope he goes. And I hope his new condo has poor heating in January.

Sadly, my narrow view of reality and rationality has been slowly worn down and beaten over the last several weeks of this Hakeem ordeal... Nothing Hakeem does anymore surprises me.

Would Hakeem leave his home of 20 years for a few million? Logic dictates he wouldn't, but logic was left behind long ago... And leave his family? Well, yeah...

I don't know about you, but Hakeem feels like family to me... I just wish I didn't feel like he was the prodigal son cutting himself loose...

    I agree!!

I'm still hoping we come back to him with a one-yr $10m deal, and say bye bye to Shandon. Thus, the whole multi-year thing for insulting dollars was just a bluff all along to come back with the big one-year deal.

This manuever will give us roughly $10m in cap room next Summer to start this all over again.

Actually, I get the feeling that Dream is a bit intrigued by the idea of playing for another team. I think if Toronto offers money that Houston won't match, he'll be stoked about playing north of the border.

I still don't see Dream leaving the Rockets. At least 3 different times during his career, Dream almost left, but he ended up staying. After all of these years of almost leaving, it just wouldn't be right for him to leave now.

I wish people would stop freaking out about how we're going to lose our free agents b/c of Dream. I'm almost positive CD has talked with Mo, Moochie, and Shandon about proposed deals after the Dream thing gets settled.

Doesn't anyone remember who Mo Taylor's agent is?

    The Evil David Falk...

Don't you think that if Mo was thinking about bailing for another team, Falk would be leaking out all sorts of info by now?

If Mo was tired of waiting on Dream, there's no doubt in my mind Falk would be pushing the issue by threatening to send Mo off to some other team. It hasn't happened yet, so there's no reason to freak out about Dream taking so long.

Sorry for the rant...now back on topic...

I still think Dream's going to retire as a Rocket.

I have to disagree, if a team panics and offers Mo big time dollars, more then Houston can offer, you don't think he would jump on it?

Well Detroit is a team that can offer him some money, maybe Seattle (not sure how much money they have), maybe Phoenix, I'm not sure. Either way, if the Rockets can free up money to make a run at Mo LAST year, another team can do that THIS year!

If Mo cared about playing for Phoenix, Detroit, or Seattle, then we would be hearing about the Sonics GM paying Mo a visit or Mo flying into Detroit to be courted. None of that is happening, it's pretty much assumed nationwide that Taylor's going to re-sign with the Rockets.

People shouldn't get all hysterical about nothing. When the Evil David Falk starts leaking info or talking to other teams about Mo, then maybe it's time to start worrying. It hasn't happened yet though...

Hakeem is not going anywhere, he will swallow his pride and come to terms, it is a business decision, period.

I would be shocked if he left for a few measly million more.

According to the Toronto Globe and Mail, the Raptors can offer Olajuwon a four-year contract worth $22 million a year, more than double what the Rockets had reportedly offered.

Doesn't look like you are going to be THAT shocked after all...

The toronto deal is only guaranteed the first year for about 5 million. However, I would be pretty upset if we end up paying Shandon more than we offer Dream. However, that seems very like since we are offering Dream around 4.5 mill and SA is wanting more than the early bird. What the hell is CD thinking?

What is CD thinking? I'll tell you. He is thinking "I made all of these promises to our free agents prior to Hakeem changing his mind about retirement". Hakeem is trying to impose his will and change the direction of wheels that were set in motion a long time ago. If he wants to stay and we want to keep him so bad, why can we not pay him the offer and have Les promise him a small piece of the team. You gotta figure that 5% of the team will be worth about 15 mil. with the new arena and all. Why have they not thought of this?

Because it is against the rules for players to own any part of the team.

If MJ comes back, he has to give up his ownership, or place it in trust while he is playing.

    Thems the rules !!

I apologize for not being clear, but I meant a promise of ownership after he retires ala Magic Johnson. I guess it is all a moot point now.

Actually, with the high Canadian taxes and the lack of a state income tax in Texas, how much more would Dream REALLY be making ?
