I'm a student at Texas, but man do the Calhoun lofts at UH look really impressive. I remember when I was working there during the summer I saw the construction for this behemoth but never got to see the insides. It's like living in a fully loaded upscale apartment (it even comes with u-verse!). It looks like this is one big step for Uh becoming tier 1 since they now have good dorms to support campus life. Anyway heres to the Coogs knocking the STD's right out of Tech this weekend. http://www.housing.uh.edu/calhounlofts/index.html
Looks cool but how much? I used to pay $575 for my share at Cambridge Oaks in a 2bed/2bath. Then I moved to a 1 bedroom in Med Center and paid $550. The extra cost of gas wasn't that much because it took me only 10 or 15 mins to get to campus. This was a few years ago so I don't know how the prices are these days, but it seems as if it's cheaper to live off campus than living at a campus housing.
Super overpriced... but such is life at UH housing. I lived all over that campus, and every year my rent went up exponentially... I asked the manager why... his response... "because we can".
A one bedroom costs about 1000 a month. Its pretty ridiculous, and they still have a ton of rooms available, even after opening it up to all UH students (before they were graduate lofts) and then to all students from any school in the Houston area. Very nice, but waaay too expensive.
That is expensive. When I lived at Cougar apartment, I won't tell you when. 2 bed room, $200/ month, 4 roommates, $50 each. Yes, it was a slump but we were poor students.
Well living on campus at UT is about 9 grand a year so this difference in price wouldn't really affect me.
it's a great idea for UH to encourage living on campus but those testimonials in the video are scary. yeah, i want to come live with you dorks. i'd be araid of aquiring acute social inadequacy.
If I ever went to UH one of its appeals would be living off campus somewhere nice, fun, and affordable. I mean thats the draw. UH has that going for it. Stick with that. One of the most affordable cities to live in and they find a way to price gauge for crappy location.
