Moving into a new home in Pearland (First time Home-Buyer) and getting all of my installs ready for Tuesday when we close and get the Keys. I have lived in homes with both, and I want a bundle w/ internet as well I' not sure what I should get. Im leaning towards Comcast but I figured I would see what your opinions are on the matter. Maybe someone here can give me a little more insight than what im getting on the competitors websites. They all claim they have the fastest internet so naturally, someone is lying. Thoughts?
in regards to the Rockets, Comcast was the only provider I could find that offers FSN Houston without a major leap in packages. Dish/Direct TV wanted like $99 a month for the next level package and I only wanted one channel(FSN). having said that...FSN on Comcast, the audio during the Rockets games bloooooows. I live in The Woodlands, perhaps it's just a nawf side thang. can't get uverse where I live at the moment.
Discovered the same thing. Dish and Direct have the cheapest packages, but you have to pay the same if not more than Comcast to get all the channels you want, like FSN. I honestly haven't had any problems with their cable/internet so far...aside from the stupid $2 charge when you change your service, like upgrading boxes.
http://slickdeals.net/forums/showthread.php?t=1804645 Some people have gotten great offers for internet and cable combined...
For internet, I don't have any other choice except Comcast cable or DSL so I have always had Comcast internet and the connection and speed has been good. I used to have Direct TV then I switched to Comcast for both because I got a good deal on the bundle. Direct TV actually has more channels than Comcast TV for comparable package and surprisingly the reception for Direct TV was great. Rarely ever lost it even in thunderstorm. I lost Comcast TV signal a little more. Comcast's billing is atrocious though, for a long time they could not keep my accounts straight, they either charged me too much or too little. Had to spent a lot of time on the phone to straighten them out.
Get the best of both worlds. DirecTV for TV. Comcast for internet. This is what I've done for years and have been totally happy.
As a new subscriber, this is probably a good deal. Switching over to Comcast internet only, though, they really jack up the price on you.
You really haven't told us what is available in your area and what content you want. If HDTV is very important for you, i'd recommend DirecTV. (Im not a fan of DishNetwork at all). If HD content is not important, then comcast will probably be plenty. As far as internet, it all depends on what you need. If you're a casual user (as in you don't download torrents all the time), then DSL or comcast will do fine. If you want higher speeds, expect to pay extra.
HD is important, I have 4 HDTV's and all the rooms need to have an HD reciever. The people that live there now have Uverse(discovered this while checking for availability) Internet needs to be at least 6Mbps.
Tough decision for you. Uverse sounds like the best deal. If DVR is important, DirecTV now has DVR multiroom viewing.
This is what I would do, provided it will be more expensive. Otherwise I'd try to get U-Verse if you were looking to bundle.
I think DirecTV's HD DVR has caught up to Dish Network in features and maybe even surpassed it. The biggest drawback to DirecTV's HD DVR used to be you couldn't use dual line buffers to flip between programs in each buffer and rewind/pause/playback. You had to actually record one program to achieve the same effect of being able to watch two programs flipping back and forth. They finally addressed this issue last year. I used to curse DirecTV's HD DVR but it is actually really good now imo as the software updates have improved it by leaps and bounds.
Look for bundled deals here: http://whitefence.com/ Comcast is never out when it rains ... just other random times, for days at a time, for no apparent reason.
Okay after carefully litigation, (and my fiancee telling me to hurry up and sign up for something so we could have it done Tuesday after closing) I went ahead and got the Internet/TV bundle from UVERSE. U450, 4 HD recievers (2 HD-DVR), Premium Movie/Sports package, Internet 12Mbps. All less than $150, not to mention 12 months discounted for doing "Paperless Billing." The only thing that turned me off of Satellite was the fact that during storms in the past I have lost my Satellite connection long before Cable will ever go out. Thanks for all the help guys.
