This is the first game that this has happened under Adelman. He has clearly been outplayed for minutes by our rookies. Just curious what your opinions are on this.

Personally, I like how Chuck busts his ass, but his deficiencies have now clearly been exposed after watching guys like Scola and Landry play for us. He has also clearly been out of rhythm the past 5+ games. Hopefully, he can get his mojo back and not lose confidence now that he has been displaced to the bench. The guy can be a great energy/bench contributor on the team, but I am happy to see Scola in the starting line up now.

I think Hayes should be on the floor when McGrady is on the floor. Tonight I wont complain. But he needs minutes.

All I can say is: Hurray!

He doesn't rebound at the rate of Scola or Landry. He is worse than useless on offense. He makes the other team much better on defense.

Have him play situationally (like Novak). That's all he's good for.

Props to Adelman for a good decision. Chuck had no business being in this game. We wouldn't have sniffed a 23-7 lead if he had been on the floor.

I for one am happy to see his minutes given to more offensive players.

Hayes has ZERO offense. He is kind of like Ryan Bowen, but not as active.

Scola starting was gonna happen sooner or later. GS had no post up bigs so no need for Hayes really tonight. Hayes will be a good professional about this, he won't make waves.

I didnt see the game so I was wondering why he didnt play when I checked the box scores. It does seem like only a matter of time till his role gets reduced.

Wow. I seriously did not realize Hayes didn't play tonight.

So is Scola officially taking over the starting position? I doubt it, but I think this implies it's coming very soon.

I love chuck and how hard he works, but he was never more than duct tape over a knife wound. Cheap and effective to keep you from bleeding to death, but not the kind of thing you want to keep forever if you can afford better.

Why should we give the other team the option to double team Yao every game if we don't have to?

He rebounds at least at the rate of Scola and Landry, but he still has no use out there unless Yao is sitting and it's just McGrady out there.

I think Scola is due to start. He makes things happen with energy, hustle, toughness. He also makes the game much easier for Yao thats why Houston got off to such a great start. This is what Houston has lacked in the starting line-up this whole time. Hayes is ok but he is no where near as good as the elite teams starting 4 and should not even be starting for any team. Scola is better because he makes the game so much easier on the offensive end.

    Or

Maybe Hayes is about to be traded ??

This has to just be a matchup decision. Hayes' only strength vs. our rookies is his incredible post defense against the west's dominant big man.

GS does not have one. So there's absolutely no reason for Hayes to play.

I'd believe Hayes is not part of the offense when he gets DNP - CD against the Spurs.

Sorry, I was wrong about rebound at a better rate than Scola:

    Rebounds per 48 minutes.

    Landry 18.3
    Yao 13.8
    Hayes 13.6
    Scola 12.0

Without Yao, I'd much rather play Scola and Landry and Hayes and either Scola or Landry (depending in the match up, of course).

I think it was a one time deal. Golden State is the kind of team you out-gun, since they play no defense at all and Chuck Hayes was in no position to exploit their doubling Yao. On the other hand, their forwards are so good at shooting the 3 that defending them with Scola as opposed to Hayes wasn't going to make as much a difference. The next time we face a team with a real inside presence like San Antonio, Utah, New Orleans or Boston, Hayes will be there to defend their power forwards.

But hopefully this was the start of Scola playing more minutes than him. We need someone at PF who can actually make people pay for doubling Yao.

Yeah I think it was just Adelman going with matchups here. And the fact that Mac was out.

Actually, I think Scola did a pretty good job on Duncan in the last game against SA. He also contributed way more on the offensive end than Hayes. Scola also stretched the defense in that game so that Yao could get more space.

At least he made it to the NBA and became a starter for a NBA team competing for a playoff spot. Now if he takes his money and hires a financial advisor he will be set for life.

Chuck will get his run next time when defense is required or when the other guys get in trouble. Tonight, it was just a choice to try and score the hell out of the ball. Makes sense since with Yao out there, the D was gonna suck with or without Chuck.

I think it was a combination of both match ups and on the block with Mike James and Kirk Snyder.

Yup, I like the 3 guys we have at the 4.
    Definitely like Scola over Juwan.
    No offense to Juwan.

Even Novak's playing and adding something, so that's great!

I think we could really use an athletic 2/3 with some skill though.
