Haha- DEFINITELY not worth that much money! I understand he bulked up, but I would take even Scola over Bynum. His performance vs. Pryzbilla was horrifyingly bad for someone who is supposed to start for a "Championship caliber" team.
Scola is definitely worth much less than Bynum. Bynum is getting 3 blocks every game, that alone worths more than anything Scola can do.
Playing in LA and being a half-way decent big man does wonder for your pockets. I wonder if Andrew Bogut could get that much money, if he was drafted by the Lakers?
I think i would have paid it, cause you look like a fool if he leaves and is a 20-10-3 guy for a competitor.
Damn, so they will have 3 max salary players? Bryant, Gasol, and now Bynum. That doesn't leave much money for Lamar Odom. I wonder if they will try to re-sign him?
odom is in a contract year, coming off the bench this year not sure how long he will be happy (same may go for artest if he goes to the bench--only difference is that artest said he would be willing to come of the bench odom was upset at the notion at first) coming off the bench as far as i know a lot of lakers fans are lukewarm on him, many feel he disappears way too often i am sure they be willing to let him walk if it means keeping bynum for the long run. but yeah the lakers are going to be over the lux tax for sure with 3 max deals really doesnt leave much for other players. i think they overpaid for bynum right now but if he turns out to be the player they envision him to be then its a bargain. the 1/2 month he played huge isnt an indicator of how is going to be for the season and the 2 sub par games so far (in blowouts at that) aren't a indicator of him being an overpaid glorified role player either. personally i would have waited till the end of the year and see how he plays for an entire season before giving him a deal like this
should be interesting to see if he gets 'cato-itis' now that he's been paid. He always kind of struck me as a guy who didn't care much for basketball. For those of you who saw him when he was in high school, he was fat. Then he got drafted way higher than everyone expected and he suddenly starts giving a damn about basketball. He's definately worked hard to improve as much as he has, but we'll have to wait and see if it continues. Being in such a big media market and having Kobe on his back will probably help keep the pressure on him.
They pretty much gave him a max contract. They could have done that at any time so I doubt they will get a bargain at any point.
Why are they signing him a big contract so early? It's not like they are locking him up with a bargain price. They could have waited to the end of the season before they decide if he is the real deal.
