I have currently a XM-ready satellite radio ready head unit in my car but sirius seems like a viable option as well. anyone who has experience with either one give me opinons on this and is it worth the 12.95 a month.
Well whatever you do, don't search title for past threads on Sirus v XM because I'm sure that there's never been a discussion here on satellite radio.
Yeah, do the search for the old threads... If you're patient, you can also get one of them for about half the monthly fee. I'm paying $7/month for the year on XM through some promo offer they mailed me after I unsubscribed last year.
Your choice is personal. You can't go wrong with either and you definitely won't be going back to terrestrial radio. It is that good. XM: http://www.crutchfieldadvisor.com/learningcenter/car/satellite_xm.html Sirius: http://www.crutchfieldadvisor.com/learningcenter/car/satellite_sirius.html btw, if you aren't aware, Sirius is probably compatible with your head unit...just purchase a Sirius tuner. You will need to purchase an antenna for either service.
i think i might get this for sirius http://shop.sirius.com/edealinv/ser...6&catParentID=7875&scId=7875&oldParentID=7870 also, how easy is it to install the satellite radio tuner like this one and how is the quality of the music (like cd-quality)?
i have had both sirius and xm, i prefer xm because the have Opie and Anthony. It all depends on what you are into. Both have good programming for music, I just prefer XM. You really can't go wrong with either. if you are looking for good deals on xm equipment, myradiostore.com is a good place to start.
I"m about to get Sirius in a few days myself. I have a compatible Kenwood deck. Getting the antena etc. next week. Can't wait.
2 years ago I bought the lifetime Sirius membership with unlimited extra receivers for $400. In 11 months I will have hit the break even point.
You've linked a portable receiver. The upside is cost (very cheap) and portability (you can listen in your car and at home). The downside is it uses a FM transmitter. It's still good, but not as great as a direct connect. This is a good unit. It has the replay function (I've never used it though) and S-Seek. S-Seek is great cause when you're listening to a song just press the memory button. Whenever that song comes on again on any channel the receiver will beep and you can turn to song before the song even starts. It's crazy. If you want it hard wired, look for something like this for your head unit: It will sound a lot better. You already have a receiver (your head unit). I believe you just need a Sirius tuner and antenna.
unfortunately my head unit isn't sirius ready but xm-ready. but, i have an auxillary input on the back of my head unit. if you buy a sirius tuner like the one i mentioned a few post up, does it include an aux input cables or will i have to buy it seperate.
Lol, I wanted to start a thread like this [Cohen would have flamed me...] I think I will get sirius -- is there any extra charges to get all the NBA, NFL, etc games?
I have a show on Sirius Every friday night at 7pm EST Channel 36 THE BEAT Riddler Remixed on SIRIUS Riddler Remixed Fridays 7 pm ET DJ Riddler brings his exclusive remixes, live sets and surprise guest DJs to SIRIUS on Riddler Remixed. You're going to have to ask someone more knowledgeable than me. I thought the above Sirius tuner could be used on XM ready head units.
No, there is no extra charge for these games. It's all included in the Sirius package. I've had both and I prefer Sirius.
You can use it on as many receivers as you want? Sounds like you got a good deal. I've had Sirius a couple years now, wish I had gotten that. The plan online now is 499 and you can change your receiver up to 3 times for 75 dollar each time. Just hope I don't sign up for it and then have my receiver go out or break in a year or something.
I have not had XM, but have had Sirius for about a month... Music wise, I would assume they would be about the same, then you got Howard versus Opie and Anthony... One of the few dealbreakers for me was the sports coverage, I honestly do not care at all about baseball (XM), but am very happy to have NBA, NFL, and the NHL (all on Sirius). Not sure about XM, but Sirius has college sports too... which is great. If you are debating satelite radio, I say go for it... I love being able to see what I'm going to be listening to before I turn it to that station... and I love being able to drive across the country without touching the radio dial (I just drove up to Connecticut from San Antonio.)
Flamed? Wasn't much more than a spark. The games can be very convenient; listened to the end of the Phoenix game last night on the way home from dinner. They keep the score posted in the screen which is pretty cool, esp. when there's lots of games on. Also, we liked it is as, but I think the stations have been slowly improving on Sirius. And if at all possible, get the Tivo-like capability in the hardware...we often find ourselves looking for the rewind...
I have Sirius, XM may have baseball, but if you live around Houston you can find the game on regular radio. NBA on Sirius is great, we don't get the Rockets down here so I get to listen to them. Also, it's good to listen to Howard Stern unedited.
