We just bought a house and we'll be buying some new furniture to get started in the house here in Austin. I'd like to find a place where the prices aren't too high, but I'd like for the furniture to last for the next 20 years at least. Our highest priority right now is living room furniture. We are looking to get a light colored leather sofa, loveseat, and recliner. So far, we've looked at Lack's, Roomstore, and Rooms to Go. Our favorite place has been Rooms to Go. Does anyone know if Rooms to Go has quality furniture? Also, our next highest priority is a new queen bed and mattress. Where are the best places to get a quality bed. Are the discount mattress stores worth looking at? I've heard that those places refurbish old mattresses and I don't want to deal with anything like that. Since I've never bought furniture new, is the process negotiable? It seems that the with so much demand for my business, that prices could be negotiable, but I don't want to put myself in an awkward situation. Thanks for any advice.
With my limited furniture buying knowledge it has been my experience that alot of the chains carry the same lines of furniture and you can ask them for a price match or discount. In fact I used this very same tactic when buying my couch from The Room Store and they price matched plus knocked off an additional 10%.
ive heard the best place to get a deal on a mattress is from costco or sams. and there both right next to each other off of great hills at 183.
I've got plenty of furniture from Rooms To Go. The quality is good. You certainly can't beat the financing deals they offer.
Thanks for the info. I'll compare the set of furniture that we liked from Rooms to Go and see if they have the same at the Room Store and see what we can do from there. We'll also check out Sam's for a mattress
I have the answer. DirectBuy of Austin. You have to join, but basically it is a buying consumer club that let's you buy stuff at the same cost as retail stores. So for instance, a LCD HDTV at Best Buy that costs $2500, you would get it at Best Buy's cost of about $1900. Furniture is even a bigger markup, generally 100% or more. I have been a Direct Buy member for 8 years, and have saved over $100,000 on furniture, carpet, appliances, jewelry, shoes, board games, counter tops, cabinets...etc..etc..etc... The reason I have saved so much is I have bought for companies I worked for and we saved A BUNDLE !! I remember just before I joined we bought a refrigerator on sale for $1600, and found the EXACT unit at Direct buy for $800..... It is amazing....but it is expensive to join, but you make it up on the first purchase. 2 thumbs up ! DD
I bought my set from Ashley Furniture in Pflugerville, next to the Tinseltown. Good selection there. You might also want to check out Sofa Mart on 183 @ Burnet, as they tend to have a good selection as well. Also, there's a Eurway on Braker between Metric and Burnet that has some great stuff.
