Well I’m not veryy bigg on game systems for the simple fact I just dont have any time to play them. However I’ve seen some of the technology upgrades & I'v been itchhing for a while to pick one up.

A couple of months ago I asked some members which system I should go w/ & the majority said Wii for the type of play I want.

I'll be more of a casual player that'll be playing just to pass time and have a little bit of fun. The motion remotes seem pretty cool & look like alot of fun so I decided to go w/ the Wii (& the price doesn’t hurt ether).

Anyways I’ve been looking ,not very hard but looking, for one and every where I go they always say we will get our next shipment w/ in 2 weeks.

Where do u suggest picking a system up & which games should I purchase to go along w/ the system?

I thought I'd come here because a lot of you guys are video game guru's so I didn't think I'd have to look further than the "Hangout."

    Thanks,

    Shawn

After my Xbox broke down (purchased it the first month it came out), I decided the hell with gaming consoles since I'm a one game man---NCAA Football. If the Wii had NCAA I would buy it. I'm through with Microsoft and don't care for Sony.

If I bought a Wii there would be only one game I'd buy for it - Super Paper Mario.

You can find Wiis fairly easily now. I've seen them at Walmart and Target. If you want to pay for an extra warranty, go to a game store, but it already has a 1-year warranty with an extra 3 months if you register it. It's been my experience that if electronics are going to crap out, its within the first year (indeed, the first few months). Not only that, Nintendo historicly makes quality hardware that lasts and lasts and lasts. I still have my SNES from launch and it still works great.

Since the Wii is the 'party game' system, I would get Wii Play, since that gives you an extra Wiimote, and buy another nunchuck. Mario Party 8 is a blast and a can't miss, even though reviews are so-so. Super Paper Mario is really well done if you like old-school platformers (think original Super Mario Bros). Tiger Woods is fun as well. Raving Rabids is another minigame game that is fun for your friends.

I think you're going the right way since you're not a hardcore gamer. You can pick up the games I listed within a couple of minutes (except maybe Tiger Woods).

I forgot though, if you skipped out on the gamecube, there are a bunch of good games from there you could try that I would reccomend over wii games.

paper mario the thousand year door
    mario sunshine
    viewtiful joe
    metroid prime(s)
    zelda

    just to name a few.

The next gen NCAA football is looking amazing. Dynasty mode has left me in awe. Gameplay still gonna need a year to refine.

For your the gaming you describe, I would suggest not getting Wii Zelda. I just started playing it and it is phenomenal but I, like you, find myself limited in playing time and it is killing me not to be able to play this every night. My son and I are really enjoying MP 8. Even though as Xero said the reviews were so-so, we have really enjoyed it. We have been slowly working our way through Paper Mario and the Thousand year door, we'll probably move on to Super PM when we finish that. Big Brain Academy is out or almost out, that may be another good game that doesn't require a lot of time to play. I'm also looking to see how the baseball game(due at the end of the month) comes out. Lots of potential there, so that may be another game worth looking into.

I can't find a Wii in Austin to save my life. The guy at Walmart says you need to call every day at midnight because they sell out before 9 in morning everytime they get some in.

If they are still hard to get, here's what you do

Google "wii tracker" and you can check stocks around your area. I found out through a random wii message board that they were being sold at a Toys r us on a sunday morning (april 1st!) and got one without any problems.

If you anticipate playing with other people, get wiiplay for the other remote. wiiplay has some fun but shortlived games that will teach you to get used to the controller.

UNfortunetely there arent' a lot of great games yet. I've heard zelda is good and so is paper mario, they are on my "to buy" list. I'm playing spider-man 3 now which is ok, swinging around the city is pretty cool and there's a lot to do.

Really, though, all the good games are coming later, metroid and smash bros. come to mind.

they still require some work to track down but if you just get the delivery date and get there earlier there should be no problem.

elebits is a cool and simple game. you may want to rent it though because you can beat it in a long weekend.

Godfather, is a pretty good game as well. there are some short cuts, but overall the gameplay is good, especially the executions.

i rented red steel...im indifferent on it. nothing special.

if you want some good gamecube games, Eternal Darkness: Sanity's requiem is a must, as well as Killer 7. 2 awesome games.

Software on the wii hasn't been too extensive.

Definite Pickup: Super Paper Mario (it's a fun game you can go in and out of)

    Think about Warioware and ExciteTruck

Avoid: WiiPlay (does come with an extra Controller)

    agreed

    Wiiplay is pretty lame.

I rented it, adn got bored real quick

I also have Super Paper Mario and havent even broke it out yet, Zelda is pretty kickass, but I find my play sessions are so far apart, I forget what I have done in my previous sessions.

Im wanting to check out TW, but havent been able to catch one at my local rental store....I make it a rule to never buy a game until I have been able to rent it and see if I want it.

as far as finding a Wii, in my area, you still have to get to the stores when they first get em, or you are SOL.

I havent seen any just sitting on store shelves.

Super Paper Mario is loads of fun. Sure, it's not exactly the most difficult game around, but it'll hold your attention for several hours.

I just picked up a Wii last night @ the sugarland Walmart.

It was pretty crazzy people kept calling for them non-stop! Good for me though becuase Walmart will not hold Wii's for any customers. You have to just walk in and ask for one and luckley they just got 3 of them 10 min before I asked.

Anyways thanks for the advice & I'll be looking into the games you guys suggested.

If you're not a big gamer and missed out on Gamecube as well, you HAVE to pick up Resident Evil 4 when it comes out for Wii (later this month I think). It's a remake of the Gamecube version but it uses the motion sensing technology and it's only $30.

It's in my Top 10 list all-time and I've been playing games regularly since '85.

I'm so tempted to get Scarface today. Just being able to wave my remote around to saw off someone's arms...

But I need RE4 in a week...time to find money, quick! Because Mario Strikers is out soon as well, at least not until July.
