I have some important documents such as my passport, social security, birth certificate and several other personal items I want to keep safe. I thought about buying a safe such as the one below, but couldn't the thieves just take the safe? Would it be more wise to invest in a bigger safe? Are they even worth it? How do you guys store your valuables?

Larger safes are much better. They are all rated for fire safety with standardized ratings. Those small ones are mostly useless.

You are probably looking at $800 minimum for decent fire protection. Not to mention about 6sq ft of floor space.

Is a lockbox at a bank an option? I don't think they're that expensive, probably around $25 for the year for a pretty good size.

Lol, what's up with the tags for the thread?

I figure the small ones are mainly used to protect against a fire or flood, not so much from being stolen.

Make sure you put that safe inside a bigger safe and bolt the bigger safe to the floor of of your panic room. Also where do you live and what is your adress?:)

Safe inside a safe is good for fire protection if the big safe is good. Otherwise it just becomes an oven. For theft protection nothing comes close to a safe deposit box.

Just go to a major bank in downtown wherever you are and get a safe deposit box, like a normal person.

If you do decide on a safe one thing you need to remember is getting one that is waterproof as well. Most people overlook that because they think fire is the main thing they have to worry about.

The truth is that if a fire does happen to break out and the fire department comes to put it out they will use a ton of water. That can ruin anything you have in the safe if it is not both fire and water proof.

Just find a safe place to hide your items. The only kind of safe worth buying is the one that thieves can't carry out.

I was talking to someone in the ring insurance business and he said just get a small water/fire proof safe with a bolt down hit. If you bolt this thing down with the screws only on the inside, it's going to be hard for any thief to just "walk away" with it.
