So I'm going to go mobile. My company is buying. Advice, please from knowledgeable people, and there's many here . I'd like to get a good specs list and then hit ebay, or go to a customizer. I'd like a desktop replacement with lots of power. A few things I'd like cd burner. dvd burner. good sound card for music editing good video card for dvds lots of memory lots of hard drive I'd like to spend less than $ 2000.00, preferably $ 1600.00 -$ 1700.00. Then I'll also buy acessories. Let me know what to get there. I'll also hook this up to a dlp projector for presentations. Thanks for any advice. p
I love my IBM A31P. Doesn't have a DVD burner, but I love the 1600x1200 resolution... Don't know what that one (or a successor) costs now. The keyboard is great, too. Significant difference to a Compaq and Toshiba I had before.
Can you buy a DVD burner for a laptop? I thought the power consumption requirements were too great. Cost - keep hunting on Dell's site for their free giveaways (free burner, free RAM, etc.) Also, remember to check deal sites. My favorite: www.bensbargains.net.
My only real advice is don't buy a Dell. I've had so many problems with the new Dell laptops, I wouldn't wish them upon anyone. <a href="http://www.samsclub.com/eclub/main_shopping.jsp?coe=0&oidPath=0%3a-23542%3a-33761%3a-33801%3a-33804&mt=a&n=0&BV_SessionID=_SC_1631104682.1075052909_CS_&BV_EngineID=ccckadckhjkfieicfkfcfkjdgoodfkh.0">SAM'S has some awesome deals on HP laptops</a>. <a href="http://www.frys-electronics-ads.com/">Check the Fry's ads too</a>. Fry's is usually overpriced, but the stuff in the ads is GREAT. <a href="http://www.newegg.com/notebook/">Newegg started selling laptops too</a>. Looks like good prices.
IBM A40p would be a best unless you decide to buy a mac. unfortunatelly ibm dropped the A product line this year so SJC's a30p is among the last products with an initial A. so. now. get yourself a R50P. thinner and lighter than the A series, but with the same great screen and keyboard. you can ever get 128MB video memory for the top model.
among your two desires you are seeking a good sound card and video card. Well unless you are going to have kick ass speakers (attachments) the sound card is useless!. What I would be looking for is good battery life and the weight of the machine. I have a sony VAIO that only weighs 3.7 lbs, and it has over 500mb of memory and attachable cd/dvd burner..but it has no flopppy drive the only downside..but it has a memory stick reader which is kick ass if you have that media capability. The last thing you want to do is lug around a 6-8lb laptop all d ay.
