Listening to CD's comments I hope that there is more going on than he is relaying. He all but said that JVG, now identified, has the Rox over the barrel.

Have they really bungled the final days or is there an agreement in principle in place?

Because if JVG is a 'NO' then Rox have egg on their face (and MD on their plate). It sounds like amateur night.

I am sweating out these last hours.

    i feel you.

but just because we thought we lost brown doesnt mean that it was our fault. the pistons had him from before they fired carlisle.

jeff is actually interested in the rockets, and with the cavs out of the way, he either takes this job or goes back to TV.

But does today's 'developments' sound professional to you? They sound like amateur hour to me, and that scares me.

If Van Gundy is "their guy" like they say one would think Les would be in Houston to at least greet the guy...

    LOL! Good point!

Isn't Jeff Van Gundy supposed to be looking at Houston tommorrow?!? And Carroll Dawson is in Chicago at that draft camp?!?

Well...hey...maybe private jets are really fast these days.

I hope he is our coach....there is no conspiracy.

It was mentioned in another post, but this thread is bringing it up too. What the hell are the Rockets doing? If we don't get Van Gundy, who's left? We just told Dunleavy he was the #2 choice. I could see some advantage to telling the world that Van Gundy is who we're going to interview and is our primary candidate, but in general it's a very fishy move.

I'll tell you what it is, it's absolutely PATHETIC if they don't have an agreement in principal already.

But then again, Mike Dunleavy sounded so desperate for the job, I don't think he'd mind being the second choice. There was some quote where he said he doesn't care if he's 1st, 2nd, or 3rd choice, he just wants this job.

I think at this point if they don't hire Van Gundy, the organization is going to get skewered in the press. That's not the kind of PR Alexander needs right now.

Come on man. Scouting for that 2nd rounder this year is much more important than some stupid coaching vacancy.

Jeff supposedly had complained about the dead night life in Houston so that might be a good thing.
I doubt that CD knows where the actions are! :)
We will have Steve and EG show him around town first! EG will have Jeff so stoked that he will sign a contract working for free!! :)

this just strikes me as funny for soooooo many reasons:

    1. athletes love houston...they make their homes here even when they're not on houston sports teams. the night life seems to be just fine for them.

    2. van gundy doesn't strike me as a "night life" kind of guy! van gundy as one of the Roxbury guys would be funny..but i don't see him as party animal, craving the night life. maybe i have him all wrong.

Madmax, add to that thaht Van Gundy is a workaholic and that he's married. When is going to have an opportunity to enjoy any nightlife? Plus, he'll be on the road half the season and can spend his summers wherever he likes. I seriously doubt it is any concern for him.

But on the subject, cc.net posters cannot be happy. Posters complain and complain that the Rockets aren't moving forward on getting the coach they want. That they try to lowball the coaches and force them to sell themselves to Houston instead of the Rockets selling themselves to the coaches. That they don't woo the coach they want. Then, when they do just that, it's amateurish. I say, don't worry; the Rockets know what they are doing; it's not as if they've never negotiated a contract before.

I was thinking the same thing Xiki.

If it doesn't work out with Van Gundy the Rockets look pretty foolish.

They better have a deal worked out already.

    JV -
It is my understanding that this is the first coaching hire for CD and Less.

What's odd is that you have more faith in the process and (from my response to you in another thread), I have more faith after the hiring. ;)

If the Rox had hired Larry Brown as head coach with JVG, Paul Silas Oscar Robertson, and Rick Carlisle as assistant coaches., Hakeem as Big Man coach, lowered ticket prices by 50% and gave free jerseys to all who come to games, some people on cc.net would STILL complain about something.

Van Gundy is probably walking around town with with 12 Tropicana Sunkist girls right now. No need for Les and Dawson :) This one is in the bag.

It was a mistake for CD to say that they wanted Van Gundy.

Now instead of Van Gundy pursuing the Rockets Job, the Rockets are pursuing Van Gundy.

They gave Van Gundy's agent all the bargaining power.
