I'm trying to set up 2-4 multi webcam inside a business to be view via the internet from a home computer, and was wondering has anyone done this before? I've seen so many different types online and at Fry's but was wondering if anyone has any suggestions. Mainly need it to be view at the home pc while recording the video onto the pc at the business.
All you have to do is set up the cameras and get a piece of software that will take the pictures and then upload them to a location on the net. You can even put them on a page that is password protected so the general public can't find them or just put them on a page somewhere and don't tell anyone. I don't work with PC's (I use Macs), but I've used Evocam for my Mac. It will control up to 2 cameras at a time (there are software packages that control MANY more). It just snaps pictures every X number of seconds (or minutes or hours) and then automatically uploads them to a server on the internet. You have to have the cam's, the software and hosting somewhere online where you can upload the pictures. Also, the computer that you use to take the pictures will need to stay on and connected to the internet via some kind of network connection (DSL or Cable work fine). That's it. There are TONS of resources. Just do a Google search for "webcam software."
here's what I got at my biz Q-See 4 Channel Remote Monitoring Digital Video Recorder w/ 4 CMOS Cameras DVR is in the biz recording. And also has an ethernet connection. I connect to the DVR from client PC and view. whats your biz if I may ask?
We set ti up, and had the power run through the ethernet cable, the camera's were activated on a movement basis and it uploaded the video signal to a PC's hard drive, which we had access to from anywhere in the world. DD
You can also get Internet camera's that directly hookup to the LAN/wireless. Then you don't need a dedicated box for viewing. Just pull it up on any PC locally or over the Internet. When it detects motion, it can also email or FTP the images to a PC. Here's a couple: Linksys Panasonic They also have a wireless version but I prefer wired cause it's more stable and cheaper. There are many other choices, obviously. Some higher end or low end like the linksys.
Is actually for my dad's friend restaurant, because he's never there and wants to view the restaurant at home. Hey vlaurelio, so the one you brought from Costo doesn't require a PC at the biz. It'll just record onto the DVR machine? and you're able to view it on the home PC thru the ISP by just plugging the DVR machine to the internet connection [cable modem/dsl]? The one I was looking at webcam monitoring seems to require a PC.
yeah it does not need a camera at the biz.. the cameras are connected to the dvr.. the dvr records the video.. there's in output from the dvr to a tv for monitoring.. then there's an ethernet connection.. I had dsl in my biz so I connected both the dvr and my notebook to the router.. I installed client software which came with the camera system, then connected to the dvr and was able to view the video.. I tried installing the client software on another PC in my home but I don't know what IP address I have to put in.. my modem's IP or the DVR's IP.. the DVR's IP can only be seen thru intranet but not intgernet meaning by the other devices which uses the same router as the dvr does.. I was thinking maybe I have to upgrade my service to use static IP instead of dynamic IP..
Neither does the one I mentioned. It only requires a web browser from any PC accessible on the Internet (ie from your dads house). Plus it doesn't require a DVR either.
I have some experience so I can help you out. When installing the webcam, look at the best locations on the ceiling to give you the best vantage point, but without obviously being there. There are two methods of doing this, one which I call the pinhole method and the other being the "range of vision method". The pinhole method is easy, have the hole drilled and place the camera behind the wall or removable fixture. The problem is, is if you have a movable camera, you can only see straight forward. If you have multiple cameras over one stall, you can do several pinholes in key locations so you get several points of view and not have to worry about trying to get the right angle. Also, if you have the time, you can paint the area so it looks like the hole is part of the design or art, this makes it more inconspicuous and hidden. The Range of vision method requires more stealthiness. When the victim is entering the stall, you obviously don't want her to see the camera, so you hide it in a typical looking object. I like to use one of those industrial air freshners since they are big and no one notices them. Get one that matches the room, have it above the stall and not too high about eye level (average woman is 5'6 so put it about this height), and get a somewhat dirty tube to go to the ceiling to make it look more legit. On the bottom part of the box, cut a hole so the camera can move to get the right angle, but don't have it be obvious so the mark can see it when she enters the stall. This should allow you to have a camera above the toilet over the right spot at an adjustable angle, but the mark will not notice it when entering or leaving the stall. You can use either of these methods or a combination of them for the desired affects, it just depends on how much time you are willing to spend on it. Make sure you use gloves to install them, because maybe about 1/200 uses will actually find it (they are becoming more aware of this possibility, stupid webcam pop up ads). i have had friends get caught by tracing the fingerprints.
nyquil...can you show me some of these set ups? im not interested in installing them in a stall, but i like the idea of stealth cameras set up around the business to monitor thiefs/employees etc etc. hook me up with a way to contact you so we can discuss my options.
one of my good friends does this for a living for both small companies like yours and for larger companies (radisson hotels of corpus christi). if you're looking to hire someone out let me know and i'll email you his phone number.
I really hope this is a joke. Either way, you are a sick b*stard. A funny sick b*stard or a seriously derranged sick b*stard.
