Bush unwittingly chooses pedophile to push tax cuts

Is that a diagnosis that you are providing with your headline?

If he had only fallen for this girl a few months later, he wouldn't be a "pedophile", right?

 

No, he would have just been an everyday sleeze, who used his position as youth pastor to take advantage of teen, while he was still a married father.

But he wouldn't have been a criminal.

It's not like he's only 18.

And maybe the whole point for him was that she was only 17; otherwise, he could have waited a few months, right?

 

We know nothing of the nature of their relationship. It could be a case of true love. It's definitely sordid because of his status as a married father of four, but the characterization of him as a pedophile is prejudgemental political opportunism.

It wasn't that long ago that 17 YOs (and even younger) were commonly married and that was a much less sexualized era.

It would take knowing some more details to make me wont to incriminate anyone here. I'm not motivated to try and drag Bush's name through the mud...

 

Semantically speaking, a person is considered a pedophile if they are sexually attracted to children 13 and under and are at least 5 years older than the child:

Legally, the pastor is not a pedophile, but certainly does have other issues.

 

No...he would have been Bill Clinton, who used his position as President to take advantage of young interns.

Yeah, it wasn't that long ago that 5 year olds were married. They couldn't show their ankles, but they could get married.

 

I despise Bush's policies as much as the next guy, but this guy has nothing to do with tax cuts, their effectiveness or lack thereof. He's a jerk, sure, but he doesn't reflect at all on tax policy.

A more relevant story would focus on the millions of kids and unborn children who will have to pick up the tab for these tax "cuts."

I never supported Clinton's messing around with an intern. I believe I've used the words sleazy and dishonest to describe it before.

Although one diference between Monica and this lady is more than half a decade in age. Also Monica doesn't feel like she was taken advantage of by the President, just by her 'friend' Linda Tripp.

I would argue that Monica may have been taken advantage of and this girl definitely was. Anytime you have an authority figure, involved with someone much younger then there is a good chance somebody was taking advantage of someone else.

But I'm not trying to have it both ways. They are both sleazy.

Monica Lewinksy was not 17. She didnt even look like she was in her 20's either. You cant pack it on that quickly in age...

By the way, who's more of a hypocrite, a President who got to where he was through lying or a pastor who got to where he was by "spreading the word of God".

 

From my view, there is little defense for this guy at all, if any.

Most of you may not see the Bible as a guide or as even relevant...but if this guy does, there are some passages about leaders leading others astray or taking advantage of them that this guy will find very, very uncomfortable.

I work with youth in my church. That's really my ministry at my church. This kind of thing really upsets me.

 

Well think about it giddy, to young men like me, older guys swooping in are sleazeballs who steal our girls, they're just trying to recapture something. It's not about love, it's about getting with a girl in her prime. That Pastor must be a Winger fan, "she's only seventeeeeeen." I've got no problem with May-December couples, but with a teenager, there's a line that's been crossed.



Actually, I had a run in with a seventeen year old just last night. Me and a friend were at Swensen's and our waitress was this beautiful girl with a nice pair of. . . eyes. Anyways, as I was leaving I just casually asked her what her major was since she had an A&M shirt on. She goes, "*Giggle* I'm still in high school, I'm seventeen. Well, I'm 22 and as I was driving her home this morning, I felt a little wrong.
