no word on Libby, but this has got to make Andy Moon happy. [rquoter]Fugee affiliate John Forte is reportedly one of 16 people who have received a reduced sentence or a pardon from US President George Bush. Forte was sentenced to 14 years in prison after being caught with two briefcases filled with $1.4 million worth of liquid cocaine at Newark International Airport in 2000. Forte wrote, produced and appeared on The Fugee's multi-platinum and Grammy-winning 1996 album, The Score. He also released two solo albums, Poly Sci and I, John. According to The Washington Post, Forte will be released from jail on December 22nd and will face five years of supervised probation. Senator Orrin Hatch, singer Carly Simon and her son James, were among the people who advocated for Forte's release. "Now is the perfect opportunity for John to be given the chance to provide positive benefits to society through his considerable musical talents," Hatch wrote to Bush in a January 2007 letter. Forte was one of two inmates who received reduced sentences. Bush pardoned 14 others.[/rquoter]
What was the case? Was it his? Only one question for me. . . DID HE DO IT? If he did ... i don't like the idea he gets off because he has friends in high places . . . What make his talent more important/better than any number of other inmates? Rocket River
i have no idea. just thought he was an interesting choice for a pardon, and Orin Hatch was an unlikely advocate.

Though I do believe that nonviolent drug offenders do not belong in jail, I honestly could not care less that a well connected person found a get out of jail free card. I will be happy once this country, specifically its leadership, wakes up and starts treating the War on Drugs as the farce we all know it is.
What an embarassment that well-connected people can engage in bald-faced corruption in front of the world and we can't do a thing about it.
It is a way to smuggle it that customs hopefuly (for the smuggler) won't expect or be looking for. And a sealed bottle of shampoo or something similar might mitigate any odor. There is also something called 'black cocaine' that makes cocaine into a black powder that dogs can't smell, IIRC using Iron in some form. I also remember reading about a smuggling gang that embeded cocaine into plastic resins. These are all basically smuggling tricks to sneak it past customs.
