Wallace's base salary will start out around $10.5 million if he takes the deal with the Pistons.

ESPN Radio in Chicago also reported the Bulls will throw everything they have (being under the cap by a good, good amount) at midnight on July 1st in an effort to sign Wallace. While the Bulls are going to become a ridiculously tough defensive team, their go-to option is still 6'3 Ben Gordon and having Ben Wallace means they would want to unload Chandler and his massive contract. Chandler may be underrated defensively but still has a negative trade value. They don't have any offensive options in the post, unless you consider Tyrus Thomas an immediate contributor.

Plenty of role players on this team, they need to add a legit offensive option to push them over the top. Ben Wallace is not a better man on man defender than Tyson Chandler, is a liability on offense, isn't getting any younger... I just don't like this deal at all for Chicago. Overpaying a player in a weak FA class isn't a necessary thing, they can add a Bonzi Wells this year for his market price (4 years, $28 million) and still be under the cap significantly next offseason to make some big moves, moves that will actually push them into elite status.

How the hell do they expect to do anything on offense? Now they'll have two stiffs in Tyson Chandler and Ben Wallace on offense. Not to mention this would pretty much relegate tyrus thomas to benchwarmer status.

Without his fro I don't think he is a max player...

    Likewise without moustache/hair I don't think morrison is a top 3 pick...

Some odd reason they see Detroit as a threat
so this is more a strike AT them than FOR wallace
This will force Detroit to pay too much for Wallace
    and
hopefully a prize will fall out . . someone they cannot pay
perhaps a salary cap Casualty. . . like .. Tayshaun Prince

Ben Wallace will help the Bulls immensely, and to find out why you just need to look at the big man on Chicago's 2005-2006 roster...

    Tyson Chandler
    Michael Sweetney
    Malik Allen
    Othella Harrington
    Darius Songalia

For all of Ben's flaws on the offensive side, his overall impact on the game is still much greater then the big men Chicago had this past year.

Looking forward if Ben Wallace signs with the Bulls:

    Hinrich, Duhon
    Gordon, Thabo Sefelosha
    Nocioni, Deng
    Tyrus Thomas, Sweetney
    Ben Wallace, Chandler

    compared to 2005-2006:

    Hinrich, Duhon
    Gordon, Pargo
    Nocioni, Deng
    Sweetney, Songalia
    Chandler, Malik Allen

Ben Wallace is about to become the most overpaid player in NBA history...good for him.

Seriously. This guy might be the most overrated player in the NBA. He makes Rybo look like Jordan on offense.

You forgot that Brian Grant got a 7 year $86 million deal from Miami.

As for Chicago, I wonder if they'll shop Chandler if they land Big Ben. I mean how many offensively inept defensive monsters do you need on a team. Surely not $20-25 million worth.

I think Juwan + Luther + Vspan/Pick? would just about do it capwise. And they're way under the cap so we wouldn't have to worry about Chandler's BYC.

That's a bad deal for both sides. You think Yao is getting doubled teamed now? He'll have two big men on him at all times because Chandler can neither shoot, handle, or pass. And the rocket's management wouldn't do it because Chandler is vastly overpaid at 10mil/yr.

With the front office junking our future in the Gay for Battier swap, the "win now" attitude has infected the rocket discussions around here. I'm proposing Chander as a 20-25 minute guy who can play PF/C and is valuable in certain defensive matchups. The fact that he makes $10 million doesn't concern me.

Actually, I'm going with Jim McIlvaine as the most over-paid player in history.

Big mistake for the Bulls unless they can unload Chandler. Even then, Big Ben isn't worth that kind of money. He's clearly on the decline.

But he just won Def Player of the Year, how is he clearly on the decline?

They probably could still try to keep their core together under the Bird rule and try to upgrade with the MLE for a while but I don't know if and by how much the owner is willing to dip into luxury tax terrirtory.

Just because some moron writers/TV guys voted for him, don't buy it.

He's not even the best defensive player in his own frontcourt.
