This is from an article in tomorrow's Houston Chronicle: Bullard returns Matt Bullard, who has missed 10 games with severe back spasms, has seen significant improvement in his back over the past couple of days. Bullard was activated for Thursday's game against the Clippers while Hakeem Olajuwon was put on the injured list because of continuing respiratory problems. "My back, I think, feels pretty good," Bullard said. "It's one of those things that you don't really know until you get out there and start playing. But (Wednesday) it loosened up pretty good during practice." Bullard said the back problems have been a severe hardship, hindering more than his basketball career. "It was very bad right off," Bullard said. "It was so bad I couldn't even play golf, so I was pretty upset. Here I was on the injured list and the team being gone all that time, and I couldn't even play golf. "It was pretty rough. Actually, I played six holes with Charles (Barkley), and, of course, I played way better than he did because he's terrible." Bullard expects to make a full recovery, even though some portions of his game will undoubtedly suffer in the short term. "My shot feels good," Bullard said. "But I think my stellar defense will be impacted just a little bit. Let's just say I won't be doing anything like going to block Vince Carter's game-winning dunk any time soon." By the way, did I tell you that I get tomorrow's newspaper today? [This message has been edited by DaneB (edited March 23, 2000).]
