There are some people who think that Matt Bullard is just a "spare part" on an NBA team. I disagree with that evaluation. Bullard was a critical member of the Rockets and his contributions to our team have been unjustly overlooked and sadly neglected. Not only is he a superior three point shooter, he also has a masterful understanding of the game of basketball, and is always at the right place at the right time. He is an expert at moving without the ball and at setting screens and picks. As if that wasn't enough, he was a tremendous presence in the locker room with his brilliant sense of humor and did wonders for the team chemistry. Instead we get aging, selfish, and overpaid Glen Rice. Bullard will come back with a vengence and bite us in the butt like Mario Elie did three seasons ago. Long live "Air Bullard"!!!
Second that! BULL is absolutely NOT a basketball genius (even he knows it ) ... but he definitely deserves much more credit than what some fans have given him. But then his new coach was kind of exeggerating what he can do.
The Rockets just guaranteed themselves 2 automatic losses per year against the bugs. Thanks Matt....for everything
How do you reward a man who has been nothing but loyal to an organization he has praised in a city he loves. A man who has proven time and again his worth as an effective shooter and leader who saved this team in many games? You let him go - not once, but twice. Some people might think of him as nothing more than a glorified 3pt shooter, but he brought so much more than that to the Rockets. His assetts on and off the court will definitely be missed. He wasnt an all-star by any means, but he was a reliable and energetic player who fit in well with this Rocket team and every one before it. So long Bull, we'll miss ya!
It's good to see that the fans really liked this guy. I'm a Hornets fan and live here in Charlotte, I hope he has the same positive impact on our city as he has had on yours. The sad part for the Rockets is that if Rice fails the physical then you guys just pretty much gave Matt to us and have nothing in return. Seems like management down there would have better sense than to renounce him before Rice passed the exam. alot of fans up herearen't real impressed with the signing of Matt but, I'm sure he will win them over in time. Good Luck next season.
You should direct them to TheMattBullardFanClub. If listening to "Air Bull" doesn't change their minds, they'll just have to wait until he lights up the court.
Bull got EXACTLY what he deserved!! hell, houston has been paying him the vetran minimum for a while now, and if i were him i would have taken the rediculously high wage they offered him in charlotte. i say if you can cash in near the end of your career, why not. bull knows that he is not a rich man. he is well to do, and has a devent retirement set up, but with this big boost he will not only have a NICE nest egg, he will also retire at a higher wage raising his pension from the NBA. good on ya bull. you will be missed a little, sure, but you are better off and so is your family. peace
How would you feel when Bull went in? I would be interested to see how the other squad matched-up with him (I don't think that he likes to defend slashers), but overall I would be excited to see if he would have one of his many shooting streaks. For Charlotte fans, the impact of Bull hitting 3 or 4 (or more) 3's in a row cannot be understated. Watch your offense open-up after these. He can jump-start an offense when it's sputtering... I'll miss his interviews too...always a little brevity. A loyal Rocket.
Bull just came off a 3-year, $5.775 million contract. Add that to the other 7 years in the NBA, plus whatever return he was making on his money... in what way is he not a rich man? That's not Bill Gates money, but -- say -- $10 million is a pretty nice nest egg already.
I can't believe people think the Rockets treated Bullard wrong and he deserved better. The Rockets rewarded Bullard with million of dollars even BEFORE the veteran minimum went up when few other teams would pony that up for Bullard. Even when he was rarely used the Rockets gave him big bucks. And then when it was obvious that Bullard wouldn't get a roster spot, instead of cutting him loose like a sack of garbage, like other teams would, the Rockets were instrumental in Bullard getting that big pay in Charlotte. So the Rockets helped get Bullard what he wanted and deserved, and everybody wins. Bullard will always be part of the Houston family, and I'm sure he will come back when his career is over, but before that happens the Rockets helped take care of Bullard's family for the rest of their life while getting Bullard some good playing time on a playoff team, and potentially NBA title contender. The only way the Rockets could have given him better were if they were to get him a 50 million dollar contract on the defending champion Lakers team!
People keep saying that Bull will come back here when his career is over. He may not. There's one thing that Bull likes better than basketball....and that's fishing. I suspect that after a taste of some spectacular outer banks fishing, he may never want to leave NC.
