"The Astros signed Chan Ho Park to a minor league contract on Tuesday, hoping the 13-year veteran can boost their mediocre pitching staff." Harsh, yet fair. Chan Ho Park? Are we desperate?
He just needs to reprise his role as rookie phenom from Asian country. 1997- 14 W and 8 Losses, 3.38 ERA, 166 Ks in 192 innings.
THEY SIGNED AN ASIAN PLAYER? YES! YES!, YES! oh wait it's Chan Ho Park? give me some more pasteys please.
Somebody was pining away for the Stros to sign Troy Percival the other day. Same thing. Reclamation job, may pan out, probably won't. Zero risk.
Right... he was the one who ultimately decided Pettite wasn't worth 2 years 36 million dollars. Also, compare what Sampson has done to what Pettite did at this point last year... still think he'd be the difference maker?
Its a minor league deal... and the Rangers are the worst team in baseball who have never sniffed a World Series (let alone a playoff series victory). If he does well in AAA (and Wandy/Woody continue to decline), he deserves a chance... if he doesn't, he won't get one.

Can't hurt. I hope to get a chance to see him play at RR. There is no downside to this, no matter what you may think about Tim Purpura.
In fact, had he signed with another NL central team, there would be people here actually criticizing him (as they did when Percival signed with the Cards).
I no longer had any confidence in the Astros this season (and I stuck with them ALL THE WAY through 2005). That'd be like the Rockets trying to sign Latrell Sprewell.
