There really has been some unsettling things go on around our team in between this last abortion of a season. There was "The Veto" then Mediocrity, and now "Dwightmare". I guess just a weird turn of events. In regards to our efforts from draft week until now... I am sure there are times in my life when I have whined about the lack of media exposure our team has gotten. I think at this point it would be nice to sink into the background. What kind of welcome have we provided to Royce White, D-Mo, Jeremy Lamb and Terrence Jones? It is a business and all, but I want to advocate the strategy of committing to these guys and our future unborn high value asset. Some things to consider.... 1. Just IMO, but the class of 2012 are all potential stars. A couple will probably dissapoint, but one or even two could have first to third best player potential. I like Terrence Jones more and more each day. I think most fans trust the drafting of our front office. 2. Having to listen to the media circus that would haunt us this year if we acquire D12 will probably drive someone to suicide. 3. Kevin Martin is a contract right now (in sense of his value). His value is at an all time low. I think teams are more likely to give up more for an expiring near the deadline anyway. I think he could have a bounce back year, or at least remind the league that he can get 20 ppg. Someone will pay for that. He is an asset that we have to flip at some point, but why when his value could be more in 2012-2013. When we trade him, we slide Lamb in and replace him with (possibly) the highest potential guy on the team. 4. White/Jones is better than Patterson/Morris. Again, IMO. Terrence Jones looks like everything that the Rockets would like Marcus Morris to be. I guess Morris is probably a better shooter, but Jones is more well rounded and has way more potential on the defensive end and from an athletic standpoint. As for Patterson, a solid player who hits well from mid range. I just feel that both White and Jones look more fluid in the post right now. Patterson also really struggles to finish or attack the rim. Again, not a problem for the rookies. 5. If we dedicate one year to playing the youth, I really believe we will come away with 2 great lottery picks. 6. We can position ourselves to grow the value of our young players, see what we have and then be players in FA. Can't wait to see these guys tomorrow. I really think we collected a lot of talent between the three picks and bringing over DMO.
This is what i am talking about. What if all three of these guys pull a Chandler Parsons in their first season?
What's all this love affair with Superman? I don't get it. We gut our team for one player who might make 20 points a night, but can't shoot free throws? We need two maybe three major contributors to attain a championship. Not just one. I'm all for Bynum and adding another couple of mid-range stars, then watch our draft picks develop. Heck, we had Yao (the best center in the league) and McGrady (a prime time star) and couldn't get to the championship level. What makes Morey/McHale think that Superman will take us to that level? Hope Morey has a clear mind and hasn't bought too much into this strategy. Build on your picks and ride Scola/Martin for another season. The new rookie additions will keep our interest until the team starts turning around.
