Get that flea medicine that you just put a few drops on the dogs back. I can't remember the name, just ask your vet. You will never have another flea again...
I've never used a fogger so I don't know. At my house when I had a flea problem but didn't have any Advantage, Frontline or Revolution (Revolution is the best, not only does it kill fleas but it also kills ear mites.) I used Borax 20 mule team. I just sprinkled it on the carpet, let it sit for a day and vacuum. If you want to go with Revolution or any of the others go through Ebay. It's cheaper. I got 12 month supply plus shipping of Frontline for under $80.
Go to the vet and get some Advantix. Put it on his/her back, and the fleas will dissapear from the house, since the dog is their main source of food.
First off, don't take your dog out of your house. 95% of the fleas in your house will feed on him instead of you if you keep him in there and fleas can lay dormant for months and sometimes years waiting for a host to come in. Second, get some K9-Advantix, Frontline, or Advantage and apply it to your dog as others have said. This will treat your dog and kill the fleas and eggs that are on it or get on it. Next, treat your house with 20 Team Mule Borax (pictured below). Borax is a natural occuring pesticide that works by drying the insects out. The kind pictured below is not poisonous so it won't harm the dog, you, or anybody else. Sprinkle it on your carpet, in corners and crevices, in furniture and any other infested places where fleas, larvae, or eggs could hide then leave it there for a week then vacuum. Note though, it will kill all bugs that it comes in contact with in case there are any you want to keep around. I tried fogger then a special carpet powder for fleas then a Frontline spray and none of that fixed the problem but when I did the borax treatment my fleas were gone in about a week. Plus with the fogger you have to leave your house for hours, turn off gas, and take all other types of safety precautions. Oh yes, to see how bad your flea problem is get a small bowl (cereal bowl) and put some soapy water in it. Then put the bowl with soapy water directly under a night light. You will get a good idea of how bad your infestation is and if you do a treatment, such as the one I listed, you can see your progress as well.
Adams brand flea spray works pretty well. You can spray it on your carpet too if you need to. Just keep your dog (and any kids) off of the carpet while it dries. I would still do the K9-Advantix, Frontline, or Advantage thing too.
I just wanted to add that if you treat only the house, it will be just be a temporary fix because you won't get every flea and the ones on your dog will spread again. Frontline, Advantage and Revolution is a temporary fix also (month to month) but it will treat both your dog and your house at the same time. Once you treat your dog it will only take a day or two for you to notice the fleas are gone depending on how bad it is. A friend of mine has one cat and had a bad flea problem throughout his house. He never gave his cat anything for the fleas. He tried a collar but the cat kept taking it off or getting hung up on something. I finally got tired of being bitten every time I was there and I felt bad for the cat because it was scratching constantly, so I gave him a dose of Frontline. After the first day I put that cat in every room for about 2 hours to kill all the fleas. Three days after the first dose you didn't feel one bite.
Actually, if he treats the house with that Borax that should fix everything. It did in my case anyway and my flea problem was terrible.
I've had good results with the Borax just not to the extent that I've had with Frontline or Revolution. I personally use both Revolution (mainly because it kills ear mites and fleas) and Borax. I've had a bad flea infestation once and don't want it again.
See mine was different. As I said in a previous post I tried Frontline and it didn't help bu Borax cleared up my problem. Different strokes....
