ok, can someone explain to me why buffalo wings are so bad for you? i eat alot of chicken, mostly rotisserie or grilled that i make. in one sitting, i could probably scarf down a whole rotisserie if i tried, but i usually just eat half. i could easily put down 30 buffalo wings also. here are some nutrional facts about them:

1/2 rotisserie chicken: 655 calories, 34 grams of fat
12 buffalo wings w/o sauce: 1212 calories, 55 grams of fat

    source

i don't understand it. wings are just a smaller part of the chicken, yet they seem to pack the most punch in the bad nutrition catagory. it must be the white vs dark meat argument. i love buffalo wings but damn, i didnt' know they were this bad.

Do you REALLY have to ask that?

Let's see, you take dark meat, which is fattier than white meat, leave the skin on, then deep fry it...Nah...there can't be anything unhealthy about that...

...also, some places bread their wings before frying (though this really doesn't count as "buffalo wings")

Personally, though, I've never understood the infatuation with buffalo wings, but that's just me, I guess.

If they baked the wings and put no sauce on them they would be healthy. But not nearly as delicious.

They are from a fat part of the bird, then you cook them in fat and dip them in fat.

Frying is part of it. Even if you bake it, most buffalo wing sauces use a TON of butter. To make matters worse, you are also basically eating a lot of skin (more skin than meat in a typical buffalo wing), which is predominantly all fat. This all leads to a delicious finger food with a gazillion calories.

They are usually fried, from the fat part of the bird, and plus you are eating the skin.

Even if they are baked they aren't so bad, but they are still from the fatter part of the bird and you still usually eat the skin.

Wings are actually considered white meat, I think it all has to do with the fact that they are fried and there is skin. The skin being left on while cooking also adds to the fat content. For instance, a chicken that you skin before cooking and then bake is healthier then a chicken you bake and then remove the skin before eating.

I too used to not understand the love so many people have for Buffalo wings. I didn't see the point. They were small, messy, and there wasn't much meat to them. But then I tried it and damn. I love the Spicy Garlic Wings. Holy crap!

I love BW's, but they made me gain so much weight...That and the holidays...As Michael Scott said, "there are only two things we like about Hooters, the boobs and the wings"...

The main reason is the skin, which is almost all fat and makes up a lot of the wing. It's also what makes it delicious...a cruel trick played by God on us.
