Awesome stuff. Thanks. But... uhhh... you could have at least put some captions of what the landmark is. I am sure WhoMikeJames will like these. Where is that "obelisco"?

Hmm.... I am thinking YOU could have used the "Ginobli Sucks" tee-shirt I promised Buck.

Cool pics! :D Thanks for sharing. My wife and son just got back from Central America. I was a little hesitant to let them go without me, but she has family in San Pedro Sula, Honduras and they said it's not as dangerous as the media makes it out to be.

What is the feel in Buenos Aires? Did you have any security concerns while visiting?

Obelisco is that Washington Monument copy. I asked all the people I could about Ginobili and only 2 people knew who he was in Buenos Aires, the country is still infatuated with Diego Maradona, his jerseys and pictures are everywhere. Ginobili is only popular in his hometown of Bahia Blanca. It seems like basketball players are the ones who weren't good enough to play soccer.

No it was very safe except 1 day we took the wrong bus and ended up in La Boca, the most dangerous part of the city. I saw guys with guns and knives while walking through huge housing projects. However we found our way out, other than that the city is very safe especially downtown, where the most people are.

I don't really know where else in Central/Latin/South America I could visit, Colombia and Brazil are dangerous and Venezuela is in chaos as well, and I want to visit Mexico City but keep hearing about kidnappings. I'd like to visit Costa Rica.

A friend of mine went to Mexico City and he said he felt safe there. He said the city is crowded and you have to watch for pick pockets, but if you don't venture down any dark alleys it's not to bad. As far as historical trips it’s hard to beat Mexico City.

I've done some traveling in the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico in and around Cancun and I felt safer their then I did in Houston.

When I went to Florence in Italy there were a lot of pickpockets. There weren't as many in Rome but we didn't bump into any regardless. Mexico City sounds fun but is the kidnapping scare just hype or for real?

Kidnapping is an industry in some countries, but I haven't heard of it being a problem in Mexico City. I remember seeing a movie (can't remember which) where the guy says some thing like: Here in Columbia drug trafficking is the number one business and kidnapping Gringos in the number two business.

I looked up some stats to see how dangerous Mexico can be and here is what I found:

According to Canto, who referred to a Kroll study, in 2003 Mexico ranked number two in Latin America with 3,000 kidnappings, second only to Colombia where 4,000 such crimes were committed. He added that 50 percent of all kidnappings worldwide are in Latin America.

This is kind of old from june of 2004, but yes it looks like it has become a problem in Mexico. Here's the link: http://www.mexidata.info/id217.html
