C-Bud is an anomaly to me. Was once hailed as being the great white hope, then fell off the radar and luckily for us - Wizard Morey was all over it when he dropped all the way to us. At this point, I am loving what I am seeing, and it leads me to wonder just what the ceiling is for this guy?
Black Joe Johnson. jk. really I think he his ceiling is a Brent Barry(at his prime) with a little more scoring.
lol...Ray Allen was incredible when he was on the bucks and supersonics. Guess you should go watch some of the highlights. he was way more than a 3 point shooter (although one of the best in league history), his penetration, defence and passing was up there as well. I very doubt chase would be there. Think he has a chance to be an all star in certain years. I voted career role player, just a really good role player.
I put 'career role player', but what I meant was 'career VERY solid starter.' He's never going to be a franchise player, but I think he'll be one of the best 3-4 players on his team for a long time.
He has all the tools. Now it is up to him in the offseason and up to the team during season to keep improving. Not only defensilvy, but his overall game. He can EASILY become an all star. I see no limitations. But I can also see him becoming a role player for the rest of his career. If he keps on improving he will be a starter for us in 2 years and he WILL be an all star.
I believe within a few years he will be an all-star. His ceiling, to me, is a star in this league. He needs to work on his D, handles and creating his own shot but if he can improve in these areas, LOOK OUT!
Disagree with the brent barry comparison. Brent had hops but did not have the jump shot that Chase currently has. Everybody can dunk but not everybody can stroke it with the pure jump shot like chase.
Its a reference to the george gervin commercial where he says " everybody can dunk but not everybody can finger roll."
Barry is a 40% career 3 point shooter and a 46% overall shooter, Barry could stroke it. I think Bud can be better then Barry with the improvements I mentioned above.
Budinger's ceiling is somewhere between Brent Barry and Kevin Martin. He is such a great shooter and moves so well without the ball, but he needs to learn how to draw fouls like Martin.
Definitely a role player but he can be a very good one. Possible starter later in his career, but ideally I see him as a key 6th man type of contributor. I'll be totally shocked if he ever develops into an offensive player like Kevin Martin.
I voted Keith Van Horn, but I was thinking of his career per 36 minute stats being Bud's ceiling. .443 FG% <-- With high usage .361 3PT% <-- With high usage .835 FT% 18.3 P/36 7.8 R/36 <-- Probably a bit lower, as Bud isn't a 6'10" forward 1.8 AST <-- Probably more like 3.8 to 4.5 as he's in a Princeton offense 0.9 STL <-- Maybe more like 1.5 0.6 BLK 2.5 TOS But a very close second was a career role-player, but as others have said, a very good starter, just not an All-star. None of the options in this poll quite seemed to fit CBud, in my opinion.
You say Keith Van Horn like thats a bad thing, he was a good player with decent stats. Don't believe all of the bad press.
if he improves, or rather continues to improve, he could be a KVH type of player. a good outside shooter, a reliable scorer. a good role player if you will.
His ceiling is up to him, he has all star skills, but does he have all star work ethic and mentality? Chase has all the tools, and he has the green light. It is all up to him. DD
Jeff Hornacek, po rip type of guy. He can be a 14-16ppg 5reb 4 asst type of guy. The question has never been talent with chase, its the dog in him. Is he a settle type of guy like barry or is he more forceful like rip?
I think the real question is whether Chase Budinger will ever be as good as Mike Miller, because that's who his best comparison is imo. Mike Miller has been a solid role player thoughout his career but has never made an all-star game. Budinger is an excellent spot up shooter who can also put the ball on the floor at times, but he's not good enough to be an all-star, especially since he's not the most assertive player in the world. Also his defense is a glaring weakness.
I think people that question his dogness are not looking at all the factors etc. In college, he had 3 different coaches, and 3 different systems....people said he "Failed to take over".......well......uh.....maybe he never got comfortable in what they were doing because it kept changing. Because, honestly, I saw plenty of dog in him last year, a 2nd round pick who comes into the league and doesn't hesitate at all, he let it fly.....and not just occassionally but every game. I am not sure he has that Alpha Dog in him but you never know who has that, and it is not necessarily in their facial expressions. For instance, I think Brooks has it.....but it is more a quiet confidence...than an outward one.... If you watch Brooks, he now KNOWS he is one of the best in the league...and goes about his business every night showing it. Let's see if Chase gets there too...... On the downside of Chase is the rotation at the wing position we have one too many wings we are trying to play. One of: Battier Budinger Lee Martin Needs to be sitting......I know which one you would vote for Leeb... DD
