I remember when the Knicks signed Brunson away from the Mavs. The Mavs wouldn’t pay what the Knicks would, and at the time it was considered an overpay. He ultimately became an all-nba player. OKC traded a star player in Paul George. For an up and coming prospect in SGA, along with 4 unprotected 1st round picks, a lotto protected 1st and two 1st round swaps. SGA went on to be an MVP candidate. Both different scenarios, but both ultimately netted teams their franchise star. Neither were stars at the time. Can the Rockets pull off something similar? Who is the next future find?…besides Sengun and Amen Coby White? Trey Murphy? What guys do you like? Go rockets!
The Rockets did it as well, when we traded for Harden and everyone thought we had given OKC a king's ransom for a 6th man. This is why I know Jalen doesn't have that level. We'd have seen it by now for longer than a 8-10 game stretch here or there.
For me it was Haliburton before his trade to the Pacers. Seemed like he was on the verge of exploding and sure enough he took a good jump. I feel like Lamelo has that next step in him, but he can’t stay on the court long enough.
I was also a big Halliburton believer and couldnt believe Sac-town made him available. another scenario that resulted in a similar outcome of attaining their franchise star. High level prospect for high level prospect. Indy certainly won that trade.
I think Mathurin could be an all-star if on the right team and given free reign. But he'd be more like a Rudy Gay type of all-star and not a bona fide talent that can push a team over the top guy. Aaron Wiggins also could be a 25 ppg/ 6 board player with a high FG%. Not sure if he'd be effective as a volume scorer though. Honestly, both may not be much better than Cam Whitmore if all 3 were given a chance to start everyday and be that guy. Passing the ball would be the question mark on all 3.
It’s a good conversation, and a possible sound strategy if you have the scouting department to identify the misfit toys the rest of the league may be missing to paraphrase “Money Ball”. Will be interested to see what names pop up in this thread
I think Cason Wallace could have something like a "bigger Kyle Lowry" career if given the reigns to an offense
Brunson had the opportunity to play with luka Shai had the opportunity to play with cp3 we paired green with the likes of wall, kpj and fvv plus one of the worst hc to coach the nba in silas
I will note that all the Thunder wheeling/dealing, starting with he Harden trade, has not resulted in anything other than a second round berth, and an accumulation of assets. SGA is an exceptionally gifted player, but I remain unconvinced by Chet, and the rest (I like iHart, but I like Steven A. better). We shall see how it all plays out this year, but if the Rockets can get by Steph/Kerr/TheRefs, I like their chances going forward. The Rockets core is younger than the Houston Cougars team that lost to Florida.
Stuff like this wouldn't be common knowledge amongst fans or those players would be poached already. All I know is if the rumors are true and we do trade the farm for Giannis, it still wouldn't be enough to win it all.
We already have 1 in Cam Whitmore He is oozing with ridiculous size and talent If he only matures, buys in the system, and gets Ime's trust
we paired Alpi with the likes of wood, bruno and boban plus one of the worst hc to coach the nba in silas
I’m convinced Wallace has several more levels in him. He’s definitely a guy who would break out with more minutes
Keon Ellis. 40% bomber and a bulldog on D. He's probably more super role players than MVP candidate though. I think Bari has another level to him too though. Lamarcus Aldridge vibes.
