Bruce Bowen has signed on as an analyst for TV sports network ESPN.

The former Spur, who helped the team win three NBA championships, said he'll be doing in-studio analysis of basketball, starting in two weeks. "I'm excited about the chance to do something new and interesting in the sports field," Bowen said.

He said the network and he agreed to terms on Monday, adding he'll be traveling quite a bit to ESPN's home base of Bristol, Conn.

As for the exact days and times of his appearances, Bowen laughed that it's way different from playing basketball, when you know your schedule way in advance.

"I know I'll be on so many days — a lot of days — but not sure when yet," he said.

Personable and outgoing, Bowen has been a lively presence on "The Ticket" 760 AM in recent months, where he's guest-hosted with morning duo Peter Burns and Andy Everett.

He said he was fortunate to get that experience and learned it takes quite a few different skills to be a host and an interviewer than to be the one who's interviewed.

Bowen was known for learning all the tendencies of offensive players he guarded to a tee. He should be a very good analyst.

Players who get by on talent and not by studying the game and the scouting reports are the ones I don't care to listen to.

I'm actually looking forward to what he has to say. He should offer some insights on how specific guys look to score since he's guarded the best players in the league.

exactly, same with coaches. The players that know the most are the ones with limited athleticism and high BBIQ.

Bowen's insight on how to defend the best players in the league.

Bowen: Carter is a p***y, you just need to punch him in the face to shut him down the rest of the game.

Bowen: If you can't put a hand in someone's face, put a foot there also works.

I think you just have to be a fan of basketball. A lot of the former players don't seem to really watch much basketball other than when they're at work. I don't think it matters much how gifted you were. Brent Barry seems like he'll be a pretty good analyst but he was pretty athletic and had a lot of talent. He had much more talent and athleticism than Eric Snow and some of those espn guys who weren't good players. They don't really add much in the way of analysis.
